Happy New Year! That is what we all say each year as celebrate new beginnings each year. But this time, it will probably have more meaning than ever! It has been three years of misery, according to my memory, which will bring more meaning to this phrase.
2010 was a year of reflection for us all, and will go down as a year of rebuilding for many. It is the time we will all remember as the one that brought us all together, unified with alot of the same issues. Many lost their jobs, homes, savings and dignity, and began to put things in perspective. Do we really need all these “things”? Or can we be happy with less? I’m sure we have all asked ourselves these questions, and were forced to accept the “new normal”. Making less, accepting lower standards, shopping for discounts, buying fewer items, going on fewer trips and living more within our means. It is what most impoverished countries have been doing for decades, we just needed a recession to understand what they have been talking about all this time.
Yes, we will say “Happy New Year”, at midnight December 31st, and yes we will really mean it more than ever. So let’s put this year behind us, and hope that 2011 brings us more happiness, because we could all use it for sure.
