5/24/11 AMERICAN IDOL FINALE; LAUREN VS. SCOTTY, COUNTRY SHOWDOWN

AMERICAN IDOL season finale part one, left the final contestants Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, fighting hard to the end.  They both came out strong, with seamless performances and passion, but one stood out.  The judges seemed to favor Lauren, which is surprising because Scotty has been a front runner since the beginning. But after tonight, even though I also had Scotty leading the pack, I also agree that Lauren stepped up her game.  She showed confidence and sounded perfect, even with her losing her voice just hours before the finale.

This will be a tough decision, because it is a Country showdown, with singers performing very similar songs.  While this now is more like “Country American Idol”, it will be interesting to see who will receive the die hard country fans vote.  The split should be nearly even, since those who favor country may vote more than ever to support their music.

The American Idol winner could go either way.  Lauren could receive the most votes after singing a tribute to her mom.  But Scotty could get the young girls votes, who seem to love him, and they typically vote multiple times.  Well with the youngest contestants in Idol finale history facing off,  let’s just see who will win.

5/24/11 IDOL: LAUREN LOSES VOICE HOURS BEFORE SHOW, DOC TO THE RESCUE

AMERICAN IDOL contestant Lauren Alaina lost her voice hours before the season finale.  But just in the nick of time, the shows doctor provided meds to allow her to make it through the singing competition.  If Lauren would not have been able to sing, it would have opened the door for Haley Reinhart to return.

The Idol Producer’s searched for Haley just in case she needed to step in, but in the final hours leading up to the opening performance, Lauren was able to regain her voice.

This was a major scare for Lauren, but would have been a great way to get Haley back in the running.  However, no luck for the Chicago native, guess she will find her fame in other ways.  Darn, I would have loved to see Haley return!
