6/12/11: DALLAS MAVERICKS WIN FIRST NBA CHAMPIONSHIP IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

The Dallas Mavericks finally won their first NBA championship in franchise history.  It was a tight battle but the Miami Heat could not hang on, losing 105-95. The Heat lost steam in the fourth quarter and were unable to catch up.

Miami Heat coach, Erik Spoelstra, made a statement after the game saying, “Neither team deserved this championship more than the other, but Dallas earned it and should be congratulated.”

Since the Chicago Bulls were unable to have a “Michael Jordan” championship season, the fans in Chi-town probably found themselves disinterested.  This held true for me as well, I gave myself a manicure.

(6/12/11 VIDEO) GUINNESS ANNOUNCES WORLD’S SHORTEST MAN; BALAWING OF THE PHILLIPPINES BREAKS RECORD

Today the Guinness World Records announced the World’s shortest man.  After measuring Junrey Balawing of Sindangan, located in the southern Philippines, he was certified as the new record holder at 23.6 inches (60cm).

The 18-year-old breaks the record, because is nearly three inches shorter than the previous record holder, Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal.  Balawings’ parents said he was born a normal size, but stopped growing around 2 months old. They did not realize anything was unusual until he was about 4 years old, when his playmates began growing at a faster rate.

Unfortunately, the family is too poor to investigate what medical condition prevented him from growing taller, but they seemed pleased when the announcement was made.  After all this press, it is certain that scientist will want to run tests to see why this occurred.
