(VIDEO) 11/2/11: THE X FACTOR USA LIVE SHOW RECAP; ROUND ONE ROCKED!

JOSH KRAJCIK PRIOR TO TONIGHT’S MAKEOVER-THE X FACTOR RECAP 11/3/11

The X Factor live show performances began tonight. During round one it was clear that the contestants were coached by their mentors, to refine their stage presence and vocals. Unlike American Idol, they already looked like professionals early in the competition.

The Stero Hogxx were first to hit the stage, looking like a well oiled machine.  The judges praised the group, giving them rave reviews for overall performance and singing abilities.  Even Simon said they were one of the best groups in the music industry at this time. However, while they looked extremely polished, in my opinion, the vocals could have been better.

Chris Rene hit the stage next and is clearly one of the favorites.  He added his unique vocals to the song and always sings with passion.  Chris continues to be high on my list due to his likeability and one-of-a-kind sound.  I see him going a long way in the music industry and definitely in this competition.

LeRoy Bell unfortunately was given a song that did not allow him to shine.  Although he is a very good singer, the spunk needed to stand out, was just not there.  I am extremely happy they gave him a “second chance”, but it may not last too long unless he picks up his energy.

Rachel Crow on the other hand, has a great attitude and sparkles on stage.  But for some reason her song selection, “Walking On Sunshine”, just did not impress me.  It sounded cheesy and was not authentic enough for my taste.  But the judges seemed to like it, so she may just squeeze through to the next round.

Lakoda Rayne originally did not seem like a frontrunner.  But they actually have stepped up their game and have surprised me.  They sounded really good and looked great so they may be a group to watch.

Josh Krajcik is currently the one to beat.  Although they gave him a song that would not have been on my list of choices, he still pulled it off.  That is a sign of a great singer, someone who can take nothing and turn it into something.  He will definitely go far in this competition and my bets on him to win it all.

Melanie Amaro was one of Simon’s biggest mistakes, which he thankfully fixed quickly.  It’s a good thing he came to his senses and called her back, because she rocked the house.  Her singing abilities are already refined and she can only go up from here.  But come on Simon, seriously….”Desperado?”  There had to be better songs to choose from for Melanie.

Brian Bradley a.k.a. Astro, rapped his way through and continues to amaze me.  While many “haters” think he may be in over his head, I truly see his potential as a rapper.  Some have even gone so far to question how a rapper can be a part of this type of competition, but I guess this is no American Idol!

InTENsity tries to separate themselves from a “Glee” style group.  However, that is exactly what I see in their performances.  L.A. Reid called it fun…fun..fun which it probably was to many viewers.  No disrespect, but this type of singing group does not seem like a 5 million dollar act.

Drew Ryniewicz, has the most unusual sound of them all.  And I really love it!  She is someone who has a “Lady Gaga” quality, there is just something quirky about her that is appealing.  It would not surprise me if she is standing next to Josh in the finals.

Marcus Canty has had his challenges overcoming some of his critics. However, he really does have a great voice and somehow pulled it off.  Although the song selection was not my favorite choice for him, because it did not showcase his range.

Stacy Francis has touched my heart from the beginning.  She always sings from her soul and obviously really wants this badly.  It was unnerving that Simon labled her as a “Church Singer”, she has the potential to sing anything soulful. But on the otherhand, she did blow it out of the water.  If the viewers get it right, she should also sail through to the next round and go very far.

My bottom picks for this week are Rachel Crow, InTENsity and LeRoy Bell.  It would be a huge upset if one of them doesn’t head home tomorrow night.  Who was your least favorite?

Simon Cowell announced tonight that The X Factor has already been picked up for another season!  So of course he will be calling me soon, since I obviously helped make this happen:).  Seriously, when will you call me Simon?  Maybe I can join you next season…

You mean Rachel Crow, right? I like LeRoy Bell but I agree that the song didn’t showcase his talent. Nicole should’ve chosen a better song. Josh Krajick is the one to beat and Drew is really very good too. I love Marcus Canty as well, but I hope LA would choose better songs. I think sometimes the choice of songs is really important it defines the contestants.

Thanks for that correction! We know Sheryl Crow would never get cut:) And I agree with song choice.
