BRAZIL: RIO DE JANERIO SCHOOL SHOOTING, 11 DEAD (VIDEO)

07 Apr

RIO DE JANEIRO–News outlets are reporting a tragic shooting at a school today.  Police confirmed 11 adults and children were killed and more than 20 were wounded, after a former student opened fire at a public elementary school filled with children.

The alleged gunman, Wellington Menezes de Oliveira, is a 24-year-old former student at the Tasso da Silveira elementary school.  He entered the school with two loaded 38-caliber weapons and opened fire on the victims, then turned the gun on himself.  Reports on his state of mind and background have not yet surfaced, but some suggest he left a letter outlining his intentions at the scene.

It is sad that school shootings continue to happen, adding to the fear kids already experience in today’s school system. Why do these senseless acts keep happening?

U.S. news outlets have not yet posted video of the scene, therefore, above video is from international media.
