Oklahoma City police officers are searching for two men on the run, after shooting an off-duty sheriff. The shooting occurred just after midnight outside Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, leaving him in critical condition.
The victim is identified as 60-year-old Major John Waldenville, a 25-year veteran of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. Reports suggest he was working as a part-time security guard at the restaurant, and was transferring a bank deposit when he was approached by two suspects. Police say, when Waldenville turned around, the suspects immediately shot him in the head.
Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel, later told KOCO-TV, the shooting was caught on video tape and is hoping that will lead to identification of at least one of the suspects. Waldenville was rushed to a Oklahoma City hospital as is listed in critical condition.
What a tragic and unneccessary shooting, hopefully he will pull through and police will capture the suspects quickly.
