Jim Tressel, the head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes has resigned. Reports suggest he is leaving due to the allegations being investigated that several players sold memorbilia, which is against the rules. Tressel allegedly was aware of their unlawful practice, but failed to notify anyone of his findings.
Coach Tressel released a statement saying, “After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach,” Tressel said in a statement released by the university. “The appreciation that (wife) Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”
He served as head coach since 2001, so his resignation is shocking to many. News outlets report assistant coach, Luke Fickell, will act as interim coach next season.
