An incredible crime occurred at the Arizona border this week, when a 73-year-old man, Carey Hal Dyess, shot his wife’s divorce attorney and several others. The divorce may have pushed him over the edge, because according to police, he allegedly harmed multiple people before shooting himself.
It was reported that his killing spree lasted about six hours in and around Yuma. The police chief released a statement saying, “This is not a random act. These victims were targeted.” The first shootings occurred just after 5:00 a.m. in Wellton, where his first female victim was shot and placed in critical condition. Dyess also murdered four other victims before killing his wife’s divorce attorney, Jerrold Shelley, and himself.
The police say Dyess finally ended his shoot-out when he pulled his car over and shot himself in his vehicle. What a tragic way to deal with a divorce, it was a waste of lives and not worth the pain caused to many families. And at his age, he should have had more strength to deal with the situation.
It is still under investigation and most victims were not yet identified.
