UPDATE 7/8/11: MAN ARRESTED!
The Chicago mob beatings have gotten out of control. The recent attack of a man in “Boystown”, located in the Lakeview neighborhood, was the third to occur within a month. It was captured on a camera phone by a witness and shows a group of about a dozen young men and women surrounding a 25-year-old man. They began kicking him once they knocked him to the ground, where he was then stabbed puncturing his lung.
When you watch the above video, it is clear that the mob fed off one another. But what’s most surprising is that they watch him as he stumbled across the street bleeding from his chest, without any feeling or regret. Not one of them took the “high road” and stopped this barbaric behavior, not even the women who typically are known to be caretakers. It is disgusting and extremely disheartening to watch as none of them helped the injured man.
Is our society so broken, that the feelings of our youth has been completely wiped away? Their faces showed no sign of remorse as they continued to walk down the street, as though nothing happened. It is frightening to see how cold and unaffected they appear to be on the tape. Does the fact they were in a group fuel the fire? Would they have the ability to brutally beat someone on their own?
While the attack of this young Depaul University student has outraged the residents of Lakeview and many others, how will this ever change if our youth have lost touch with their emotions? It reminds me of futuristic movies that portray barbaric humans in the years to come. Let’s hope this is not where we are headed as a society.
The young man is expected to be released from the hospital today. It is sad to think, although he will heal on the outside, but will be forever damaged on the inside. This is certain to cause fear and distrust and may take him years to overcome the pain caused by this senseless crime.
What is wrong with our youth? Is this a sign of the times?
