After deliberations a Federal jury found all five police officers, involved in the post Katrina New Orleans shooting of innocent victims, guilty of deprivation of rights and civil rights violations. After the unsuccessful original trial, where they were unable to prosecute the officers, this will certainly bring some satisfaction to family members and outraged residents.
The five Police Officers were charged with shooting six people and killing two, while they stood on the Danziger Bridge. Prosecutor’s said the officers shot the unharmed residents, then tried to cover it up. It occurred only one week after the 2005 horrific storms completely devastated New Orleans, which outraged many.
This is a tragic story, especially after such destruction and loss many experienced due to the hurricane. Very sad…many police are incredible and work hard to keep us safe which is commendable, but some give them all a bad name.
