It would be great to be popular Jersey Shore reality show star, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino right now. He has actully been offered hard cash by Abercrombie & Fitch Co. to NOT wear their clothes. Whoever heard of a company not wanting their clothing viewed by millions. The show had a record-breaking season premiere with over 9 million viewers!
Well, apparently Abercrombie & Fitch believes having Sorrentino seen in its clothing could cause “significant damage” to the company’s image. Seriously? Do they really believe the public bases their decision to not buy a favorite outfit because of who’s wearing it? I cannot remember the last time I thought “wow, that singer wears those shoes, I refuse to buy them.” If anything even if the public figure is hated, the fact an outfit is seen by so many may actually increase the likelihood it will be purchased.
If you love or hate the Jersey Shore cast, one things for sure…they are cashing in for ridiculous reasons. It’s hard to blame them for earning millions for their obscene and tasteless antics, when millions are helping them earn more than the President.
Since they offered a “substantial payment” to Sorrentino and producers of the MTV reality show, he’ll probably wear something else. And you can bet many other designers are lining up to let him wear their clothing, so they can also see their profits soar.
If only I could design clothing…In the end, they say it was a publicity stunt, but now it may have backfired.
