2011 EMMYS HAVE NO COLOR…WHEN WILL THIS CHANGE?

The 63rd annual Emmy Awards aired tonight and while many of my favorite shows were honored, one thing was missing…color.  Did I miss something?

It seems like decades ago that The Cosby Show featured an all black cast and received rave reviews.  This seemed to be the opening for offering more diverse programming.  But in the year 2011, although we have a black President, it is disappointing to see the lack of growth in other areas.  While I counted five very talented African-American nominees (Idris Elba, Laurence Fishburne, Taraji Henson, Andre Braugher and Loretta Divine), none won an Emmy and there were no shows even in the running with an all black cast.

When will the major networks see there is a void and fill it?  Why is this market still underserved?  Everyone wants to see people they can relate to on camera.  It amazes me that this is not a hot topic and no-one has stepped up to the task.  How many of these shows have been presented to the major networks and have received no support?

It would just be very satisfying to see talented African-American actors given the same opportunity to win an Emmy.  With the lack of superior roles available, how will they ever compete?  Why can’t we speed up progress and expand diversity in the television and film industry?  When will the time come when this will not even need to be up for discussion?  How many years must we wait?  It just needs to be a more level playing field.

Let’s hope someone comes to the rescue…come on Oprah and Tyler Perry push them hard and back it with some of your millions.  You are our only hope.

9/18/11: CHARLIE SHEEN PRESENTS AT EMMYS; OFFERS WELL WISHES TO “TWO AND A HALF MEN” CAST

CHARLIE SHEEN presented at the Emmy’ tonight and before presenting an award, offered well wishes to the cast of “Two and a Half Men”.  He went on to say, “From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming year.  We spent eight wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television.”

The statement seemed a bit awkward and it was hard to tell if it was spoken from the heart or in a sarcastic tone.  Only he knows what he really was thinking, but it appeared forced and may have been best left unsaid.  Well, I guess he tried. At least he did not blow up and lose his cool like Floyd Mayweather.

VIEW VIDEO-FULL LIST OF NOMINEES

The much-anticipated 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy’s is tonight and a long list of stars will be on hand, wearing their best designer fashions.  In the running are some of the BEST shows on TV including; Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Modern Family and The Good Wife.  What an awesome list of well-deserving shows, with some of the best cast and writers out there.  They are my favorite shows so my fingers will be crossed for them all!

It still amazes me that each year the very rich movie stars receive an incredible gift bag filled with FREE goodies.  It seems like once you finally become wealthy, freebies are plentiful.  Where are the free things when you really need them?

Who is your favorite to win?

(VIDEO) 9/17/11 BOXING: FLOYD MAYWEATHER OUTBURST ON COMMENTATOR LARRY MERCHANT; ORTIZ LOSES

SORRY FOR THOSE WHO MISSED VIDEO-IT HAS BEEN REMOVED ON YOUTUBE DUE TO COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS.  NEW VIDEO MAY BE RE-POSTED BY THEM AT A LATER DATE.  PLEASE CHECK BACK.

The much-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz took place in Las Vegas tonight.  While it was exciting and full of momentum it was the end that had the crowd on their feet.

During early rounds the match appeared fairly equal.  But Ortiz had a burst of momentum and apparently headbutt Mayweather.  As they went to make amends and hug Ortiz relaxed his hands and was sucker-punched to the floor.  The audience showed their disdain and yelled in disgust.  It was eventually called a Mayweather win by knockout but that was not the end of the fight.

As the popular and well-respected commentator, Larry Merchant, interviewed Maywearther, he was verbally attacked. Mayweather began a loud assault of words yelling obscenities at Merchant.  He was angry and felt the commentator was “not on his side”, so he screamed “you never give me a fair shake!”  The good news is that Merchant held his ground and yelled back “If I were 50 years younger I’d beat your @#&!”  It was pretty funny to watch an older man standing up to someone clearly in better shape and much younger, but disgusting to see him be disrespected in such poor taste.  Mayweather even went as far to say “HBO should fire you!”

It really was unnecessary and did not show good sportsmanship by our new World Champion of boxing.  What a disappointment.  This is not the behavior we want our youth to follow.  Let’s hope he apologizes.

What a sad day for the sport of boxing…this will go down as one of the most embarrassing moments in sports history.  What do you think?  Should Mayweather apologize?
