CHRIS RENE ROCKS X-FACTOR -VIDEO GOES VIRAL!
9/22/11: X-FACTOR RATINGS JUST IN!
Simon Cowell’s new singing competition X-FACTOR premiered tonight. It will definitely be compared to the hit show American Idol, in the days to come. But is it better than Idol? Well, let’s break it down.
X-Factor has singers…ditto. X-Factor has judges…ditto. X-Factor has singers who suck…Ditto. X-Factor has singers with incredible voices…ditto. X-Factor has a broad age group…not! X-Factor has Simon and Paula…not! All-in-all they are extremely similar shows with a few exceptions; a live studio audience, opportunities for wider age ranges and the return of the magical duo.
Although X-Factor is similar to Idol it has a major difference. The show allows people over the age of forty another chance in life. Just like stand-out singer Stacy Francis who was the highlight of the evening. After telling her story about a “broken spirit” she rose to the occasion. She is a single-mom with an infant and a three-year-old, and this truly may have been her last chance to follow her dreams. It was amazing to see her belt out an Aretha Franklin song with feeling and emotion completely on key. She gave an incredible audition and deserved to move on. Glad she did.
There were also others who clearly needed a break, like the 13-year-old girl who opened the show with brilliant singing abilities, or the 20-year-old with his last chance to break into singing before starting another career. It was especially powerful to see the contestant, Chris Rene, battling addiction. His story was heartbreaking, and his original song blew me away. It was an instant hit and someone is sure to sign him immediately…A STAR IS BORN. These are all the people you root for in this situation. Many people miss their chance in life to excel, due to fear or missed opportunities and before you know it, time runs out and they are considered too old.
While X-Factor is similar to Idol, it was a bit more interesting to watch because the stories of overcoming impossible odds gave it more meaning and made it more than just a singing competition. In the end, don’t we all just want to see a happy ending…it keeps our hopes alive.
Welcome back Simon and Paula…you were missed. And L.A. Reid and Nicole were great additions. It is certain to be a hit! But is X-Factor better than American Idol? Well, you be the judge. Post your comments…would love to hear your thoughts.
