Today just after 1pm it was announced that a verdict was reached in Dr. Conrad Murray’s trial, in the death of Michael Jackson. This seems fairly quick to me, considering the jury began deliberations on Friday morning, and even had the weekend off. It adds up to just 10-hours of deliberations, which is surprising for involuntary manslaughter charges . However, according to legal experts, this is “just about right”.
Reports suggest the jury had a good relationship, which probably helped them come together quickly to reach a verdict. There were seven men and five women on the jury which offered a good balance. But it still seems really fast to decide ones fate, since they heard 49 witnesses over 23 days, who provided a lot of testimony. They even heard from his long list of ex-girlfriends, medical experts and investigators.
Dr. Murray will be certain to hold his breath as they announce the verdict. He will probably be thinking what a big mistake he made becoming Michael Jackson’s personal physician and if the money was worth it. Surely any potential financial gain has been stripped in legal costs.
It is hard to believe that MJ died on June 25, 2009, by “acute propofol intoxication” in combination with two sedatives, it seems like just yesterday.
The family of Michael Jackson arrived shortly after 2pm to hear the verdict. What do you think…is Dr. Murray guilty or innocent? Well, he has a lot at stake, so the jury truly has his life in their hands. The verdict is expected to be announced later today…it will be VERY interesting to hear the outcome.
