CNN reports that Mississippi voters have rejected an amendment to the state constitution, that defined life as beginning at the moment of conception.
If passed this could have caused a big problem for Roe Vs. Wade cases and would have made it virtually impossible to get an abortion in the state. The measure would have created a problem getting the morning-after pill or birth control pills that destroy fertilized eggs. The “Personhood” Amendment would have also opened the door for changes in other states, so all eyes were on this vote.
For women interested in having non-traditional birth options, it could have also made disposing of unused fertilized eggs illegal, essentially making in vitro fertilization treatments more difficult.
While many conservative pro-life activist will find this a huge defeat, those who believe in a women’s right to choose may think otherwise.
