The City of Chicago announced that the Taste Of Chicago will be cut down from 10 days to only five days, in 2012. This is disappointing news for the millions who enjoyed the world largest food festival. They also will move it to after the Fourth of July holiday (to July 11th – 15th), because they discontinued the fireworks.
Reports suggest the changes were made due to the huge decline in attendance this year. But let’s face it, they eliminated the popular firework show and hired less known performers, so what did they think would happen? What poor management of such a great event for our city. It was a booming summer event in year’s past and brought huge revenue to area business owners and participants. How could they have destroyed a “sure thing”.
This could be the end of the Taste, not only are they cutting the days, they plan to have even less popular performers next year. It also will be turned back over to the Mayor’s office from the park district going forward. What a huge loss this would be for our great city.
Where else can you buy over-priced food, while crammed in a park filled with millions of hot sweaty people? But it still was a lot of fun.
