It seems that Vice President Joe Biden has once again put President Barack Obama in an awkward position.  During a recent interview on “Meet The Press” he opened a can of worms on the topic of same-sex marriage. Although he later apologized to the President for putting him in a tough position, it did force him to take a stance. Maybe for once, Biden putting his “foot in his mouth” just may be a good thing.

The remarks made by Biden forced President Obama to announce his position on same-sex marriage.  It is the first time that I can remember a President taking a powerful position on such a taboo topic, especially before an election.  President Obama actually stepped forward Wednesday to say he supports same-sex marriage.  During an interview, he told ABC News that he is “absolutely comfortable” with letting gays and lesbians marry.

The President even went as far to say, “At a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

Whether you accept gay marriage or not, it is admirable that he was bold enough to share his thoughts on the subject.  Most politician’s try to “side step” controversial topics to keep a distance and don’t have the guts to take a stand, especially at the risk of losing votes.  It’s refreshing to hear a President offer support with a direct, straight forward approach and without apology.

This is clearly the most “Forward” thinking President in our lifetime and if his stance about same-sex marriage causes him to lose the election…shame us on all.

What do you think?
