Well, when I saw the promo’s announcing another singing competition, I was skeptical. It seemed especially cheesy to hear it was a duet version of all the others. The only reason it seemed appealing and made me tune it, were the judges. They include; Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, super sexy Robin Thicke and Sugarlands’ lead singer Jennifer Nettles.
If you missed it, you may want to set you DVR for next week. It was actually incredibly entertaining and the competitors were first class. They seemed to skip right through the duds and selected amateur artists who are ready for a record deal. And talk about talented artists cast as judges…wow!
The way it works is, the judges interview various singers, then select two for their team. Then they perform hit songs together and the non-performing judges rate each other. The contestants are then ranked on a scoreboard and later audience votes select a winner. The lucky champ will receive a recording contract from Hollywood Record.
Cool concept and throughly enjoyable to watch. The performances were over the top and all of their choices rocked it like professionals. Instant stars will come from this show, because the talent is just that amazing. My favorite duets for the night were Jennifer, John and Robin’s first round, simply perfection. Ok, they were all so good it’s really hard to pick one and round two was even better.
It has a completely different feel from the singing competition shows. Clearly their edge over The Voice is that their judges are actually nice. And it seems to cut to the chase unlike American Idol which showcases the good and bad.
Overall it has great potential and is far better than The Voice. If American Idol loses Jennifer Lopez, they just may have a chance to be the replacement. America’s Got Talent would not be considered a comparison, because they include too many outrageous acts, making the show less credible.
On another note; the host Quddus (from MTV’s Total Request Live) did a good job and seemed natural. I bet he’s hoping for a Ryan Seacrest payday.
This show should be a hit, it’s like a free concert…I definitely added it to my DVR playlist! Did you watch? Did you think it was a hit or miss? Please post your comments.
