2012: CHICAGO’S PRIDE PARADE BREAKS RECORD; 850,000 ATTENDEES

24 Jun

The Chicago Pride Parade held on Sunday 6/24/12 broke a record with an estimated 850,000 attendees.  While they changed the route this year and added five blocks to spread the crowd more evenly, it seemed to only draw more people to the parade.

With last year’s figures reaching about 750,000 in attendance the staggering increase was a bit of a surprise.  The weather was perfect with sunshine and blues skies which probably also helped.  Colorful floats and entertainment have drawn thousands to the parade since its inception and this year was no exception.

Despite the increased crime in Chicago this year, police were happy to announce that there were no reports of serious crimes or disruptions.  Did you attend the Pride Parade?  If so, what was your favorite part?  Post comments and share your experience.

I was there and everyone was well behaved. Some of the balloons were cool. Especially the ones that spelled out “Pride.”
