In a surprising twist Rep. Luis Gutierrez used popular heart throbs, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez as an example when presenting to Congress on the house floor. It was in reference to the controversial provision of the Arizona immigration law, that was upheld by the Supreme Court this week. Gutierrez showed a photo of the couple and tied them into his speech as he shared his disdain for the change in the law.
Using this animated approach did capture their attention as Gutierrez went on to say; “These young people have overcome their very different national origins and become apparently a happy couple. I’m sure Justin helped Gomez learn all about American customs and feel more at home in her adopted country.”
As they watched in disbelief he continued; “Oh, wait a minute. I’m sorry. Because I’m not a trained Arizona official, I somehow got that backwards,” the congressman continued. “Actually, Ms. Gomez of Texas has helped Mr. Bieber of Canada learn about his adopted country. Justin, when you perform in Phoenix, remember to bring your papers.”
It actually was interesting to watch and was a smart move on his part. Due to their huge popularity around the world, his message will definitely be heard. It has already run on every major network which should work in his favor.
