Well, I just received a tweet the Steven Tyler announced he will leave American Idol.  After being a judge for just two seasons, it seems the show may not have been exciting enough for him to stay.  Or it may be that the show gave his singing career a boost, so it’s time to take advantage of it.

Rumors of Jennifer Lopez also leaving has now been confirmed.  With another turnover, it could be the end of the popular singing competition show.  When fans see multiple changes, history shows they tend to lose interest.

When Idol initially announced Tyler was joining the show it seemed like a bad idea.  But he has actually grown on me and replacing him may be a challenge.  Jennifer Lopez leaving is a huge loss, she was by far their best judge to date. This means their weakest link, Randy Jackson, is on the only one left, which is not a good thing.

The ratings have been lackluster in recent seasons, so this news could definitely end their  long run at the top.  Idol has gotten a bit “tired” lately, so this would not be a surprise nor a true loss. The show has been fun to watch over the years, but with all the competition these days, it may be time to hang it up.

What do you think?  Will you miss Steven Tyler? What about Jennifer Lopez?  Who would you like to see replace them?  Can Ryan Seacrest save the show?

On another note; does this open the door for Simon Cowell to get X Factor back on track?
