The First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs in Jackson Mississippi, needs to pray for acceptance. Because on July 21, 2012 they committed the ultimate sin of the heart. They banned a black couple from marrying in their Church because of their race.
It was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. Te’Andra and Charles Williams had decided to unite in a loving marriage. They mailed the invitations, selected a beautiful wedding dress and invited family and friends to join them on their special day. But a few days before their joyous occasion they received shocking news. A few members of the congregation said they would not allow them to marry in their church because of their color.
Although they regularly attended the church, they were not members. However, Pastor Dr. Stan Weatherford agreed to consummate the union. But after several members threatened to vote him out if he went through with the ceremony, the Pastor had to move the wedding to a nearby church. He was stunned to hear, that in this day and age, blatant racism still exists.
What year is this anyway? How could they be so behind in time. If they believe in God, how could they miss the “Love Thy Neighbor” message? It is truly sad that some still have strong feelings of hate, based solely on the color of a person’s skin.
When will people understand we are all on earth together and it is necessary to unite. Racism has no place in this world and is just plain stupid. It is especially intolerable for those who attend church and pretend to have “Love in their hearts“. Shame on them.
Again I ask, “What year is this?”
