In separate freak accidents this week, two men died at football games. During the Thursday night Houston vs. Texas pre-season game, 25-year-old Jonathan Kelly fell from a 5th floor escalator. According to news reports, Kelly was trying to slide down the side of the escalator, when he plunged more than 60 feet to his death.
Then on Saturday night at the Tennessee vs. Carolina State game, Isaac Grubb, 20, of Lenoir City, Tennessee fell over the railing 35 – 45 feet after celebrating a touchdown at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
This is tragic to hear and both incidences shocked fans as they watched two lives taken away in a sudden death. It makes me wonder if new safety measures should be established to avoid future unnecessary accidents. Anyone who has been in a stadium up high, has thought about the long fall down if you’re not careful…I certainly have.
Both deaths are being investigated and obviously the young fans are being tested for alcohol. Which offers the question…Is drinking alcohol at a game really safe? Not to say they were drunk, but this certainly adds to the chance of losing your balance. Do you believe safer measures should be implemented?
R.I.P Jonathan and Isaac…very sad way to go.
