FRANK OCEAN- NOMINATED FOR BEST NEW ARTIST AND SONG OF THE YEAR
The Grammy nominations were presented in a mini-concert tonight on CBS. Some of my favorite songs are in line to grab an award on the biggest music event of the year. The 55th annual Grammy’s will air on February 10, 2013 (8pm/7pm central).
Many top artists performed, including; Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, Fun, and Luke Bryan. It adds to the hype of the award nominations and makes it more entertaining as they read the names.
It was great to hear the “Record of The Year” nominees included; Kelly Clarkson (“Stronger”), and Taylor Swift (“Never Ever Getting Back Together Again”). Love those songs, but wished Bruno Mars was on the list. He has had amazing songs this year and any one of them deserved to be record of the year. Other songs competing for this coveted award are; The Black Keys (“Lonely Boy”), Fun Feat. Janell Monae (“We Are Young”), Gotye Feat. Kimbra (Somebody That I Used To Know”), and Frank Ocean (“Thinkin Bout You”). Ne-yo should also have made this category…”Let Me Love You” is a great song with a great message. And is it just me or are some of these songs weaker than usual for this category.
The most exciting nomination for me is always “Best New Artist of The Year“. However, this year it was strange to see the list of name and many great singers were missing. While most had hit songs that I knew very well, many of their names nor faces seemed familiar. It was as though their songs overpowered them, which is a huge change from the past. The nominees are; Alamba Shakes, Fun, Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers, and Frank Ocean. Where’s the variety?
This year’s nominee’s shows where music is headed right now…seems to be more pop and with a less soulful sound. No rapper’s and only one R & B singer in the new artist category? It appears crossover music is more prominent now…which could be good or bad depending on what you like.
Seriously…where is Justin Bieber (Record of the Year), One Direction (Best New Artist), Bruno Mars (Record of The Year/Pick one!), Nicki Minaj, and Carley Rae Jepsen (Best New Artist)? The fans are pissed! I guess selling millions of records does not get you a Grammy. Bieber and Mars had a lot of great hits this year…this is a huge disappointment.
CONGRATS TO ALL THE NOMINEES…WHAT A HUGE HONOR!
