It’s amazing to think that a virtually unknown Korean singer can break a Youtube record. Surprisingly enough, it was not Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Carly Rae Jepsen, Miley Cirus or even Taylor Swift to reach this plateau. Shocking many this week, it was Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ video to take the world by storm; reaching 1 billion views on Youtube. And it has kept growing since then, adding another 27,000,000 views in just two days!
This just goes to show just how powerful of a tool Youtube is for anyone looking to break into the music industry or just become famous. It’s a great inexpensive gateway to success and finally offers an even playing field. Maybe politicians should jump on the bandwagon, instead of spending billions to win an election.
Is this type of video what the public wants and thrives on these days? Well, when you consider it’s just a catchy beat with a fun-filled personality dancing and singing with enthusiasm, this seems simple right? Well, not exactly…if the biggest names in music cannot hit a billion views, this is a true accomplishment.
Wonder how much a billion hits on Youtube actually puts in your pocket? Why can’t any of my videos become viral sensations? Oh, that’s right…I can’t sing, dance, and am not a charming animal…darn!
On another note; I bet Psy wishes he could take back the anti-American lyrics he rapped about back in 2004. But he was responding to the unnecessary death of young girls murdered by American’s in a 2002 explosion…seems like many have already forgiven him though? At least he apologized…right?
Justin Bieber has some work to do!
