Django Unchained is not for the weak of heart but it’s absolutely worth seeing! The acting by Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leonardo DiCaprio is superb. While I originally was unsure if it was worth seeing, I decided to check it out anyway. I’m so glad that the negative reviews by a handful of people, including Spike Lee, did not sway me.
It actually turned out to be the best movie that I’ve seen this entire year. While Quentin Tarantino does not always impress me, this was definitely his BEST work. Although it was extremely bloody and graphic, in his usual twisted way of filming, it works perfectly. There was just enough humor to take the edge off the violence, even in the most graphic of scenes.
Samuel L. Jackson was so hilarious he made my stomach hurt. Christoph Waltz was incredible and brought his character to life. Jamie played the part to perfection and showed once again why he is an Oscar winner. Kerry had a very small role which was surprising, but she did a great job.
Spike Lee has blasted the film, saying “it’s offensive to his people”, but obviously he has not seen it. If he had viewed the movie he would see this is not the case at all. First he discredited Tyler Perry movies and now Tarantino…he needs to get a grip. Clearly he is feeling irrelevant these days, and is crying for attention. GO MAKE A MOVIE SPIKE AND THEN YOU CAN GET BACK IN THE LIMELIGHT.
Some may be fearful of seeing a movie about slavery with violence and brash language. But seriously, if you go in with an open mind and remember “it’s just a movie”, it is well-balanced enough to be entertaining. Even if you are offended by the “N” word, during the first 10 minutes you will get over it.
Great movie all around…and worth your $10 bucks. It is certainly Oscar worthy, even if Tarantino has one of the most twisted minds in the movie industry! By far his best movie to date. GO CHECK IT OUT!
On another note. as we left the packed theater others around us were laughing and saying positive comments. Guess I am not alone when it comes to having a warped sense of humor:).
As a reminder…this film is NOT for kids.
