In watching today’s Inauguration for President Barack Obama, it was clear that this is a very special day. The swearing-in on Martin Luther King holiday made it historic in many ways. It’s likely that activist and legend, Dr. King, is smiling down on him and jumping for joy.
It occurred to me that this could be the last time anyone in our lifetime will experience a black President in office. There are really no African-American replacements being groomed for this role, so we should let it sink in fully. The fact that this event happened on this holiday, celebrated by millions around the country, gives it extra meaning.
It would be great to get inside President Obama’s head to know exactly how he is feeling at this moment. First Lady Michelle Obama had a special glow, so it’s obvious she is savoring the moment. The speech by our President was strong as usual and he looked strong and determined.
Singer Stevie Wonder chimed in and shared his excitement. Since he led the charge in making it possible for the Martin Luther King holiday, his pride was two-fold. Some may not know it, but his song “Happy Birthday” was a huge reason this holiday was finally approved.
Hoping President Obama can finally get all done in the next four years, that he tried during his first term. If only the parties can come together and leave their personal agenda’s at the door. Let’s be clear, he knows this is his last term, so he will go FULL throttle to get the job done. The Prez has nothing to lose.
On another note, how cool was it to see power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z in the forefront. She definitely rocked the National Anthem and showed class and a quiet confidence. Good for Kelly Clarkson as well, she sounded great even with her bruised finger nail. And a special shout-out to Sasha Obama for yawning…the girl was tired! It’s hard work being his daughter.
