AMERICAN IDOL found more talent than expected in Baton Rouge, Louisiana tonight. They handed out 34 golden tickets and it was clear many of them may find themselves on the live show.
While they only showcased a handful of contestants heading to Hollywood, some certainly stood out. It started right out the gate, with an injured beauty queen on her way to surgery. Megan Miller was a trooper and did not let her recent accident hold her back. She belted out a soulful tune with perfection and added a bit of humor. Singing into her crutches was a nice twist and showed her funny side. This is obviously someone who leaves excuses at the door.
Another stand-out was firefighter, Dustin Watts. He was charming and had a great voice to back up his confidence. Dustin was one of the best country singers to hit the stage so far and may find himself surpassing many other Carrie Underwood wannabe’s.
My favorite singer of the night was the last one, Burnell Taylor. His voice was strong and his animated performance seemed natural. The way he looked straight into the judges eyes showed his determination and pure desire to win it all. He may have lost everything in hurricane Katrina, but he absolutely did not lose his voice. The judges gave him a well-deserved standing ovation and he even brought Mariah to tears.
It was good to see them put more focus on the contestants tonight. The whole Nicki and Mariah feud was already getting old, especially since this is a singing competition….not The Bad Girls Club.
On another note; Idol may have lower ratings this season, but they still are at the top when it comes to ratings. However, my blog readership for Idol are at an all-time low, and have over 50% less views than The Voice or The X Factor blogs. Are fans getting tired of the show? Well, Jennifer Hudson just revealed she hopes they call it quits soon, so they can leave on top. Is it just me or does Nicki Minaj need to go?
Check out the ratings below….thanks to Tom!
