This week attorney James Freeman announced nine former American Idol contestants will sue the show. What’s shocking is that they are screaming racism. If you’re an Idol fan, you know that many black contestants have found fame and fortune after the show.
Can you say, Fantasia Barrino, Jordin Sparks and Ruben Studdard? They all won in past season’s and have had successful singing careers. Even Jennifer Hudson who was not a winner, secured a Grammy and an Oscar.
According to TMZ, the attorney says the show has hyped the drama for ratings; by publicly revealing that some black contestants have arrest records and then using that information to boot them off the show. Even contestant Corey Clark who was featured in 2003 has jumped on the bandwagon.
Freeman told reporter’s that he has submitted a letter to the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He is requesting approval to sue the show on behalf of nine severely humiliated African-American male contestants.
The show producer’s claim this is ridiculous and I have to side with them on this. While we know they look for ways to boost ratings, and they likely know their criminal background in advance, it is a part of securing viewer’s. This is entertainment and if they didn’t want to be humiliated why put themselves on national television? They clearly knew their criminal history would come to light.
America allows people to sue over pretty much anything…but this would be a travesty. If you don’t want to get embarrassed stay away from reality TV. Seriously, how many others get humiliated and keep on moving. How about Honey Boo Boo, the cast of Beverly Hills Housewives, the Kardashian’s and many more? They are of another race…so what’s up with that?
