Forbes has just released the 2013 list of most miserable cities in the country. The number one spot goes to Detroit, Michigan which is no big surprise. There is a lack of jobs, a depressed real estate market and the city is essentially broke. Recent news even suggest that the state has taken over Detroit’s financials, because they are BROKE.
Chicago ranked number two on their list. They based this on the extremely long commutes, plummeting home prices, high foreclosure rates, heightened crime, and brutal winters. Now this news is a shock; because even with the increase in crime and homicides, I still believe Chicago is a great place to live. It is sad to see our amazing city on the list, let’s hope they get the senseless shootings under control soon.
Flint Michigan ranked number two which is also understandable…have you watched news stories about Flint? It is tragic to see how depressed the residents are in that part of the country. Rockford, Illinois ranked number three and even New York city made the top ten.
It seems like the recession may have had more impact than just on employment and the housing market. The domino affect is a sign of the times…and it is obvious that one thing affects another.
And let’s face it…political corruption is also a big part of the financial breakdown in many of these cities. Can you say Jesse Jackson Jr, Kwame Kilpatrick, and Rod Blagojevich. I’m just saying…

Other than the weather I think LA is a lot worse place to live in than Chicago.

Tom, I have never been to LA. But based on the comments I have heard about phony plastic people with no soul and the smog…have to agree!
