{VIDEO} X FACTOR USA 2013; CHICAGO’S CARLITO OLIVERO FIGHTS HARD UNTIL THE END

Chicago’s very own, Carlito Olivero, made it all the way to the finals on The X Factor.  That alone was a triumph for this young man, who fought hard and gave his all, even through the many challenges thrown his way.  Some doubted him…but he kept pushing. His passion and endurance is an inspiration to the youth around the globe.

It was exciting to hear his name called as one of the top three finalists, especially after he fell to the bottom two multiple times.  This is a perfect example of how you can come from poverty and still make something of yourself with hard work and perseverance. How can you not LOVE a fighter?

The judges may have given him harsh critiques along the way, but he took note and made adjustments.  Carlito was hungry for a win and obviously wanted it bad.  There was no stopping him, which even earned him the respect of the sometimes grumpy Simon Cowell.

While Carlito was up against major competition; Alex & Sierra and Jeff Gutt, getting this far is already a win for this Chicago native.  He will always have a special place in the hearts of many and especially those in the Windy City.  Trust me, the fans are rooting for him and want to see him succeed long after this show.

Go Carlito!  Wishing you all the success you deserve…win or lose on The X Factor, you are already a WINNER to us all.

[VIDEO 2013] WARREN BUFFETT ANNOUNCES BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY MERGER…KOENIG & STREY – PRUDENTIAL RUBLOFF JOIN FORCES

On Tuesday November 12, 2013, billionaire Warren Buffett made an exciting announcement; about two legendary Chicago real estate firms set to merge this spring.  Luxury home sales powerhouse Koenig & Strey Real Living and Prudential Rubloff will join forces under his Berkshire Hathaway brand.  They are set to become one of the top real estate brokerage firms in the entire Chicagoland area, gaining a huge percentage of market share.

Essentially, Prudential Rubloff sold its ownership interest in their company to Home Services of America; a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate.  Making this the most notable real estate merger in Chicago’s history.  Both firms are leaders in the luxury housing market and their similar styles make this a perfect fit.

Over 400 agents showed up to a last-minute surprise meeting at the Drake Hotel, after receiving an email invitation late in the day on Monday (including me!).  It was a shock to hear about the merger, not because it was unexpected, but due to the complete secrecy of this news.  There were no rumors nor talks in advance throughout the company, at least not at an agents level.

The exciting part about this merger, is that they will now both fall under the prestigious Berkshire Hathaway brand.  The company was named The World’s Most Admired Companieswhich offers buyers and sellers even more confidence when using its services.  Major backing of these exclusive firms by Buffett was confirmed; since it is the FIRST time he has allowed a real estate affiliate to fall under the prestigious Berkshire Hathaway name.

[VIDEO] 2013: CHICAGO HOLIDAY SHOOTINGS MAKE NATIONAL NEWS; 12 DEAD & 74 SHOT; CITY TAKES TO TWITTER

Published 7/8/13

The city of Chicago may be the home of President Obama, but it’s now receiving national news for all the wrong reasons.   During the 4th of July holiday week the number of shootings skyrocketed; leaving 12 dead and 74 people shot throughout the city (North/South/West Side).  The level of violence is not only senseless, but an embarrassment to local politicians and certainly the police.  Many residents are asking, “When will the violence in Chicago end?”

We certainly do not want to be known as the most violent city in the world, but if this “Wild Wild West” mentality does not end, that is exactly where we are headed.  Who will want to visit our great city after seeing news reports with a staggering number of shootings?  Absolutely no one.

It’s ridiculous that a few bad seeds can bring a city to its knees and cause fear among the masses.  What happened to respecting life and loving one another?  Well, that seems to be a thing of the past and the violent massacres are beginning to look like a scene from a futuristic movie.  Have people finally lost their minds?  They surely don’t seem to care about killing our youth nor the consequences of getting caught.

What can the police do to end the violence in Chicago?  Is it time to legalize drugs to end the turf wars?  Or fight crime with archaic methods like cutting off the hands of a shooter?  That would definitely stop them from shooting a gun.  Prison does not seem to work and more police on the street is not solving the problem.

How did it come to this?  When did the police lose control?  New York city used to be one of the most deadly cities in the country and now is family friendly.  Do we need to implement their policies, they seem to be working to curb violence.  Not sure, but something needs to happen fast.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has implemented a new program using Twitter and social media to catch criminals.  Witnesses can now tweet photos of the crime scene or send them via cell phone.  But is this enough?  Well, at least it is a start.  They say  homicides are down…seriously what does that mean?  One child lost is up…in my opinion!

Maybe the above video should be shared with all of your friends and family to spread the message across the country.  Unfortunately, too many children have died from gun violence and too many parents have had to bury a child.  It’s painful to think that a mom or dad has to put their precious child in the ground.

What will it take to end the shootings in Chicago?  Post your ideas in the comments section…maybe someone in power will read your feedback.  Personally, I am sick of the violence and look forward to it getting under control!

[CRAWFORD VIDEO] 2013: CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS WIN STANLEY CUP….MAKES FANS PROUD!

[CRAWFORD VIDEO] 2013: CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS WIN STANLEY CUP….MAKES FANS PROUD!

WARNING: ABOVE VIDEO CONTAINS FOUL LANGUAGE – DO NOT LISTEN IF YOU NEVER HEARD THE “F” WORD!

The Chicago Blackhawks win of the Stanley Cup in 2013 brought joy and excitement to local fans.  It was made clear during the celebration rally held on Friday 6/28/13, where millions attended.   But one of my loyal blog readers (Tom:) shared the sentiment of many Chicagoan’s with a special message of pride.

While Goalie Corey Crawford’s’ speech was filled with foul language during the victory rally…his emotions just may have taken over.  This did not seem to offend the large crowd nor the fan who forwarded his heartfelt message.

I received the below email and thought it was worth sharing with readers who likely feel the same way.  While some may say, “it’s just a game”, it truly brings more meaning this year.  Chicago has continued to receive bad press for its heightened violence and we finally had a positive boost!

GREAT JOB BLACKHAWKS!  Check out their ad in the Boston Globe below…classy!

A MESSAGE FROM TOM….TRUE BLACKHAWKS FAN AND CHICAGO LOVER! (Thanks for sharing:)

Yesterday (6/28/13) the Blackhawks took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe, as seen below (or click the link if you don’t see the picture).  Made me proud to be a Chicagoan and a Blackhawks fan.

The parade and rally yesterday was attended by over 2 million people.  One would expect many arrests to be made in such a large crowd… only 5 arrests were made, 4 misdemeanors and 1 felony.  If you are interested in the full story of the event you can go to www.suntimes.com or www.chicagotribune.com. The “highlight” of the day was Goalie Corey Crawford’s speech after being given the “honorary award” for MVP of the NHL, by the actual MVP of the final winning game Patrick Kane.  Crawford said is thanks, and added “of course it was a team effort, these guys worked their f#@%$’ nuts off to get here.” WBBM radio cut the feed right after the remark, but the NBC TV affiliate just kept going on, and actually joked about the remark.  It’ll be interesting to see what the FCC has to say, as they have recently lightened up on fleeting expletives (such as Bono’s remark at the Grammy’s).

I’ve now been alive for 3 of the 5 Stanley Cup wins for the Blackhawks.

2013: CHICAGO TURNS VACANT LOTS INTO URBAN FARMS; MAYOR EMANUEL ANNOUNCES NEW PLAN; FARMERS FOR CHICAGO

farmersAs a Chicago real estate agent, I see my share of vacant lots in depressed areas around the city.  Nearby abandoned buildings are an eyesore and haven for gang bangers and drug dealers. It is scary when showing homes in these neighborhoods, and makes my job a challenge.

Well, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a new idea to combat a portion of this problem in the city of Chicago.  On Friday he announced the launch of “Farmers for Chicago“, which will essentially turn vacant city lots into urban farms for the next three years.

The new program will be supported by private donors and will turn about five acres of city-owned lots into urban farming developments. Chicago will partner up with the local urban agriculture organization Growing Power. Neighborhood residents will be trained by nonprofit organizations, to grow food which will be distributed to local farmer’s markets, restaurants, and grocery chains.

2013: FORBES RANKS MOST MISERABLE U.S. CITIES; DETROIT #1 AND CHICAGO #4

detroit housingForbes has just released the 2013 list of most miserable cities in the country.  The number one spot goes to Detroit, Michigan which is no big surprise.  There is a lack of jobs, a depressed real estate market and the city is essentially broke.  Recent news even suggest that the state has taken over Detroit’s financials, because they are BROKE.

Chicago ranked number two on their list.  They based this on the extremely long commutes, plummeting home prices, high foreclosure rates, heightened crime, and brutal winters. Now this news is a shock; because even with the increase in crime and homicides, I still believe Chicago is a great place to live.  It is sad to see our amazing city on the list, let’s hope they get the senseless shootings under control soon.

Flint Michigan ranked number two which is also understandable…have you watched news stories about Flint?  It is tragic to see how depressed the residents are in that part of the country.  Rockford, Illinois ranked number three and even New York city made the top ten.

It seems like the recession may have had more impact than just on employment and the housing market.  The domino affect is a sign of the times…and it is obvious that one thing affects another.

And let’s face it…political corruption is also a big part of the financial breakdown in many of these cities.  Can you say Jesse Jackson Jr, Kwame Kilpatrick, and Rod Blagojevich.  I’m just saying…

SEE THE FULL LIST OF CITIES HERE.
