According to above video it’s not the first time.
The Casey Anthony saga continues, with the investigation of her criminal attorney Jose Baez. After the judge found Anthony guilty, he ordered her to serve probation but stipulated that her time served while awaiting trial, would not count. However, a clerk accidentally counted her time in jail on the paperwork, basically nullifying the probation.
Since Baez was aware of the mishap and chose not to inform the court, he is now being investigated by the State Bar of Florida. This has become a huge debate among attorneys, some feel although it seems unethical it was not his responsibility to point out the error. Others believe that attorney’s are bound by ethics and Baez should have informed the judge of the error.
Baez does not seem too concerned about the potential legal issue. Although he has a long history of disputes with the court system, he said it will be dismissed just like the many other cases brought against him in the past. This statement seems a bit cocky seeing that the state of Florida denied him a license to practice law for nearly a decade because of a history of unpaid bills. And to everyone’s amazement upon his approval in 2005, he landed Casey Anthony as a client.
Many were outraged to hear of the error, but is Baez to blame? Shouldn’t the prosecutors and judge take the brunt of responsibility for not catching the error.
In the end, Casey seems to keep getting lucky, with a weak case and this error she appears to be on a winning streak. But karma will catch up to her at some point…some believe that’s what happened to O.J. Simpson.
What do you think? Should Baez have come clean, or should his loyalty be with his client?
