[VIDEO] 2013: PRESIDENT OBAMA VISITS CHICAGO FRIDAY TO DISCUSS GUN VIOLENCE; WEEKS AFTER HADIYA PENDLETON MURDER

Published: 2/13/13

President Obama will visit Chicago on Friday to discuss gun control and violence in our great city.  This comes just weeks after the senseless shooting death of Hadiya PendletonIt usually takes one special person to tug the hearts of the public and push politicians to truly address an epidemic….this being gun violence.

During his 2013 “State of The Union” speech last night, Obama even took a moment to speak on behalf of Hadiya’s murder saying; “Just three weeks ago, she was here, in Washington, with her classmates, performing for her country at my inauguration.  And a week later, she was shot and killed in a Chicago park after school, just a mile away from my house.”  What President should have to utter those words?

While many have questioned whether his visit to Chicago will help put an end to the violence, I disagree.  If he  approaches it in a non-typical way, it just may have some impact.  The true message should be that our youth need to change their beliefs.  It is time to stop with the excuses about the lack of opportunities for young black men.  They can use the President as an example…we finally have a black Prez and that says a lot.  Although it is still a struggle for minorities to achieve greatness…he clearly has shown it is possible.

If our youth could just understand…that not having the best schools nor money, can be used as motivation to excel.  There are opportunities in America for those who fight through the many obstacles and have a desire to rise to the top.  If only the gang bangers would use the same energy to succeed that they use on negativity, imagine how far they could go in life. They will die for their drugs and turf wars, why not put their life on the line for something positive.  It would make more sense to lose your life for doing the right thing, instead of killing innocent victims.

It has been a bloodbath during the past few years and gun violence has increased.  This is the time to say “enough is enough” and put the whole right to bear arms into perspective.  When will gun activist learn that owning a gun is not a right but a privilege?  How many more children must die before they get the message?Does it have to be one of their loved ones shot dead for no reason before it sinks in?  Let’s hope not.

If President Obama can change the minds of just a few young teens headed down the path of destruction…it is worth his stop in Chicago.

This madness needs to end.  As a real estate agent, I am often fearful to show homes in some of these violent neighborhoods…how crazy is that?  Should I be afraid to do my job and should children be afraid to play in a park?  I don’t think so.

President Obama will speak at Hyde Park Academy, a high school just minutes from his home in Chicago. Fingers crossed that he leaves a strong message behind…and gives us hope for a better future.

R.I.P. HADIYA…AND THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER INNOCENT VICTIMS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES TO GUN VIOLENCE.

2013: GUN VIOLENCE IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES; IS THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A LIFE? CHICAGO REACHES 36 HOMICIDES

Published 1/26/13

gunThe month of January is not even over and Chicago just reached 36 homicides for the year.  Last night two men were shot to death outside Kevin’s Hamburger Heaven in Bridgeport.  It was the first double homicide of 2013 in Chicago.  This equates to more than one murder per day…which is a sign of the times.

While gun rights activists are stocking up on ammunition and weapons to prepare for tougher gun laws, more people are dying.  There are cities that have run out of ammunition and guns since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown.  Many shops have seen a 50%+ increase in weapon sales.  Is the right to bear arms more important than a life?

Let’s face it, gun violence is a sign of the times.  We live in a world of violent video games, lack of jobs giving our youth little hope to succeed and an epidemic of prescription drug use.  This is clearly a different time from when the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was signed. The fact that many cannot see this is mind-boggling.  If their family member were killed would they still feel this way?

Look, I am all for the freedoms we are privileged to have in America.  Each day we are faced with more restrictions and rules putting us into a small box.  Camera’s follow our every move, we can’t drink what we want, we have to watch what we say or face the consequences, and to get through an airport can take hours due to searches and heavy screening.  RULES…RULES…RULES!

But of all the laws our government is considering and enforcing, stricter laws on those who should have the right to own a gun makes sense.  It really should NOT be a right…but a privilege.  Even if you are a law-abiding citizen, what’s to say you have not become a prescription med addict,  junky, or merely snapped.  And look at fact that many of the guns are left in reach of children living in a home.  This week a 3rd grader brought a loaded gun to school for two days in Inkster, MI.  How did he get the gun?

The right to own a gun is a sensitive subject.  There are strong feelings on both sides of the issue and few in the middle.  While I understand both sides of the fence, the thought that gun rights activist reference the constitution seems ridiculous.  It was adopted in 1791 for goodness sakes, how can anyone think we are living with that same mentality. This is clearly a different world; we have grown in numbers and have mentally and physically evolved.

In the end, the next time you think about losing our rights…consider the overall picture.  If someone truly believes they are in a state of mind to own a gun, why would they care about being screened for mental issues or other background checks?  While it is an inconvenience, isn’t saving a life worth the extra steps?

Well, if Illinois allows concealed weapons, I will certainly NOT feel safe.  What do you think?

(VIDEO) DEADLY GUN VIOLENCE MUST END…TOO MANY TEDDY BEARS IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES

Unfortunately, the gun violence in Chicago has reached an all-time high.  Each day we lose young innocent teens on the streets, usually just at the wrong place at the wrong time.  The above video is a sign of the times across the country.  And with the recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, this message stretches beyond our city streets.

It’s sad that the new generation of youth cannot enjoy the simple times of yesterday.  Schools used to be the only safe-haven for those living in gang infested areas.  But to hear of such devastation, even in a tight-knit small community such as Newtown, crushes that hope.  Where can they feel safe?

The guns need to come out of the hands of irresponsible civilians. There is absolutely no need for them to have  semi-automatic assault rifles.  If guns continue to flow freely in the streets, how do we expect the senseless violence to end?

If you have the passion to hear what our youth is feeling…listen to the words in this heart-felt video.  It is called Too Many Teddy Bears which is a sad reality.  What a powerful message…the lyrics will chill your bones.

When a deadly shooting can happen at an elementary school in Newtown…it can happen anywhere.
