SEARS ran into a serious issue this week, when its website ran a special but without their permission. It was reported that consumers were angered when they went to buy a heavily reduced IPad 2 for only $69 on the Sears website. The problem is, it sells for over $700 and Sears did not approve this sale.
Sears says it was a third-party company that made the error and Sears is now refusing to honor the price. Needless to say many customers are angry and are sure to fight this til the end.
What do you think? If you see a published price, error or not, should they honor it? Well, it happened to me at a big discount electronics store, and after getting into a heated discussion with the store manager, the Regional Manager honored the wrong price. He also added an extra discount and a gift card valued at $25. Now that’s great customer service.
While it is unfortunate someone seriously messed up, they may need to suck it up.
