2/28/13: AMERICAN IDOL TOP 20 REVEALED; SHOCKING RESULTS FOR SEASON 12 SUDDEN DEATH ROUNDS

American Idol revealed their top 20 list of semi-finalist for season 12 on Thursday.  Fans may be disappointed at some of the results and missing a few early favorites.  While the clear front-runners such as Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, and Curtis Finch Jr. sailed through, others weren’t so lucky.

Idol has a group of amazing talent this year, so I can see the dilemma faced by the judges.  I would not want to be in their shoes, especially not those of Nicki Minaj.  It was a close call for some contestants and many early round unknown’s stepped up their game.

Although the judges did not like Josh Holliday’s rendition of an original song, I totally disagree.  It sounded it great to me and I was surprised he did not make the list.  Nick Boddington was not on my radar, but I believe he rocked it, although the judges did not think so.  Vincent Powell was clearly one of the best guys to perform and he has a real chance of making top three.  His vocals actually surpassed one some of my favorites including; Curtis and Devin.  Nicki sang high praises for Burnell, and he was really good but not the best.   Cortez Shaw also really left his heart on the stage and was incredible!

In the end, while many great singer’s were cut, there is still a huge pool of talent.  The only ones in question are Zoanette (she is entertaining but vocals don’t compare to others) and Aubrey (extremely attractive but vocals are fairly weak compared to other contestants).

This should be an incredible season and if I were to guess there are several already primed for top spots.  They include; Candace, Kree, Nick, Curtis, Vincent, Cortez and Angie.

Who do you think will win Idol?  Post your comments and let’s see who is right!  Game on…

On another note; once again Nicki Minaj is really pissing off the fans. Did she really have to be so rude to several of the contestants?  Especially David and Bryant…OMG!  Her being “obsessed” and her British accent is also beginning to unnerve me.  This inspired me to write my blog AMERICA HATES NICKI ON IDOL!

1/17/13: AMERICAN IDOL CHICAGO AUDITIONS RECAP; KEZ BAN & LAZARO ARBOS INSPIRE FANS

American Idol hit the windy city during the Chicago auditions, which aired tonight.  While they showcased numerous extremely talented singers, two really stood out.

The back stories are my favorite part of this stage of the competition.  It shows the struggles of so many young adults, which is touching and inspiring.  Well, the clear misfit Kez Ban was the first to completely blow me away.  His unusual style was washed away as he belted out a perfect pitch with true feeling. It was great to see him heading to Hollywood and leading the charge for so many others in his/her same position.  He will clearly inspire young teens to accept who they are and not worry what others think.

However, the shocker was Lazaro Arbos who stuttered so badly it was hard to understand him.  But when he sang it disappeared and his voice was crystal clear and incredible. He was a true inspiration for anyone with a speech impediment and it just goes to show…miracles can happen.  Good for him and he also walked away with a golden ticket.

There were other stand-outs tonight who may have a chance as the next American Idol.  The first singer, Kiara Lanier, who recently sang for President Obama at his Birthday fundraiser, was on of them.  But she may have fierce competition from Isabelle Parell, Griffin Peterson, and Curtis Finch, Jr.  Although chills have not yet arrived from anyone just yet and I was hoping for it to happen in Chicago…at least we had a few good singers.

Overall, Idol still has some work to do and the ratings last night make this apparent.  The show was down about 18% from last season during its debut, although it ranked #1 in the Neilsen ratings. Over 17 million still tuned in, so it is still better than some of the competitors.

On another note; not sure if I can take Nicki Minaj the whole season, but Mariah Carey and Keith Urban are growing on me. However, did they really need to be so MEAN to the girl in the flashy “costume”?  That really seemed like cruel and unnecessary abuse.  Only Simon Cowell can get away with that type of humiliation.

IS PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA OUR LAST BLACK PRESIDENT?

A scary thought occurred to me this week, as I watched the gap close between President Obama and Mitt Romney. Is Barack Obama our last black American President?”   Well, if you consider how long it took for us to vote for one in the U.S., this could be possible.

It would be a shame if President Obama loses after only four short years in the White House.  The pride we felt when a black president was elected, would be short-lived and possibly never happen again in our lifetime.

While President Obama opened the door for other’s to follow and gave our youth hope that America truly does offer opportunities for all, he was given a tough challenge.  Finally after waiting many years for a black President to win, he took office during one of the worst economic disasters in history. Tragic…

Although he may not have been a “perfect” President…who has?  They have some power but let’s face it, our President cannot change the world overnight.  Four years is a short time to turn around a horrible economy and learn one of the most difficult jobs on earth.  Luckily he prevented another depression, but he needs more time to actually make a dent.  Anyone in office would need longer to really make a change, so don’t believe there is a magic wand to fix it quickly.  Unless GOD wins the election, this is going to take a long time.

Whether you are a Democrat or Republican it is a thought that will resonate.  “Is Barack Obama our last black President?”   Maybe not, but it is possible during our lifetime we experienced history that won’t repeat for a long time to come.  I sincerely hope this is not the case.

What other black politician is being primed for Presidency right now?  Certainly not, Jesse Jackson, Jr.

VOTE…VOTE…VOTE!  ELECTION IS NEXT WEEK…MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

(VIDEO) CHICAGO 11/3/11: KELLI O’LAUGHLIN HOME INVASION KILLER CAUGHT; CHARGED WITH MURDER

IN MEMORY VIDEO FOR KELLI O’LAUGHLIN

Late Thursday night, police investigators announced the capture of a murder suspect, for the recent home invasion and stabbing death of 14-year-old Kelli O’Laughlin.

About one week ago, the Indian Lakes teen surprised a burglar when arriving home.  The suspect, 38-year-old John Wilson, Jr., allegedly stabbed her to death and then hailed a cab after the crime.  Police say DNA evidence links the suspect to the crime and that they found her blood on his clothing.  Even more shocking, he supposedly used her stolen cell phone to call her home afterwards.  Wilson is reported to be a “gang banger” on probation, with a long criminal record.

Authorities are confident they have the killer and early today charged him with murder.  It’s good to hear they have someone in custody and he appears to be the killer.

This was a senseless loss of life and if they have the right man, let’s hope he pays dearly for this horrific murder. May Kelli O’Laughlin rest in peace…gone too soon.

VIDEO 9/13/11: “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT” FINALS; WHO WILL WIN?

America’s Got Talent aired the finals tonight with a host of incredibly talented contestants.  It was down to the final four including; Poplyfe, Silhouettes, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., and Team ILuminate.  This was definitely the best line-up of contestants since the shows inception, and most gave stand-out performances.

This will be a close race for three of them, unfortunately, my early favorite Poplyfe may have fallen short tonight.  It is truly anyones race, but my favorite performances of the evening were ILuminate and Silhouettes.  Their originality and perfection would do exceptionally well in Vegas and I see them going all the way.  They rocked it tonight!

In the end, the performers provided a season filled of excitement and a offered a big improvement over past contestants.  My only confusion is why a show called America’s Got Talent, has no American judge?  It seems as though the British continue to take over our airwaves and isn’t Howie Mandel Canadian?  I guess America’s Got Talent, just not with judges…not that I don’t love Sharon Osbourne.

UPDATE 9/14/11: Series finale, and the winner is…YOU WILL NEVER GUESS!

6/30/11: ‘SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’ TWO CUT TONIGHT

The popular dance show, “So You Think You Can Dance”, has amazing talent this year.  It seems like every top dancer in America tried out, so this will be some of the hardest elimination rounds yet.  It is tough to make cuts when the talent is so strong, but someone has to go.

Tonight the judges had the unpleasant job of having to cut Miranda Maleski and Robert Taylor, Jr.  It was a shame to see Robert go home, because he was funny and added humor to the show.  The next rounds will likely become more and more challenging, causing the judges stress level to increase.

Who do you think will go all the way?  It is still too early for me to tell, they all are just so good!
