[VIDEO] 2/27/13: AMERICAN IDOL VEGAS SUDDEN DEATH RECAP & REVIEW; TOP 5 GIRLS…DO LOOKS MATTER?

American Idol featured the second round of ladies in the semi-finals tonight.  It was tough decision on which five would make it through, because there was just so much talent.  But it also made me wonder…do looks matter?

While many extremely amazing girls went home tonight, it was clear that in many cases a pretty face went a long way.  Well, with the exception of the first one to sail through…yes, you guessed it, the over-the-top Zoanette.  She may not have movie star looks, but does have a great spirit and is totally unpredictable.  Her vocals were not my favorite tonight, but she was definitely entertaining.  Do you think she earned a spot?

However, when it came to the judges selecting the beautiful Aubrey Cleland…looks definitely helped her cause.  The dress she wore was fantastic and her beauty is undeniable. But her performance was not as good as 15-year-old Juliana Chahayed, who was sent packing, and I loved her song choice.  However, Aubrey does have the overall package so I can see why they kept her.

It was great to see one of my favorites, Candace Glover, head to the finals.  She was not at her best, but she can really sing!  I was not happy to see Jett Hermano leave because her vocals were spot on.  Of course the other attractive contestant to win over the judges was Breanna Steer.  However, I also enjoyed her song choice and attitude.  She deserved to make it through.

In the end, we are a nation where beauty does open doors. We love good-looking people and it helps in any industry when you are easy on the eyes.  As much as this is a sad fact….it is the truth.   Trust me, beautiful people get paid more, are offered more opportunities, and are more marketable.  But this can also be a curse, because they have more to prove and usually need to work harder to earn respect.

Did good looks earn some of the girls a spot in the finals?  Absolutely.  When you are split between great singers, it then comes down to who will sell more records.  Put an attractive woman on a CD case and it is a platinum hit!

To break it down…the final five girls to blow through this round are, Zoanette, Aubrey, Candace, Breanna, and Janelle.   it sucked to lose Rachel Hale…she rocked it!

[VIDEO] 2013: AMERICAN IDOL SUDDEN DEATH ROUNDS 1 &2 RECAP; TOP 5 GIRLS & GUYS

American Idol season 12 is on fire!  The girls stepped up their game during “sudden death” round one in Vegas.  It was a tough call when they narrowed the 10 girls down to 5, but they got it right.  While a couple of early stand-outs were sent home, an incredible array of talent was left standing for the live show.

The ladies rocked it and will give the guys a run for their money.  My personal favorites were Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb, Adriana Holcomb, Teena Torres and incredible songwriter and singer Angie Miller If you missed her perform an original song make sure to watch above video and be blown away!  Guess I have great taste, because this is your top 5 semi-finalist!

The worst performance of the night was given by Kamaria Ousley….it made me question how she made it this far.  It was a bit sad to see her ship sink in front of our eyes.  Sorry but she sounded HORRIBLE!

Now on to the guys…several actually have a good chance of making top 3, but I am still rooting for the ladies.  After 6 years of a dry spell…it is time for another Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson!   But the guys did not hold back during round two and put on a good fight for the top spots.  The performances were stellar, but only a few really shined when it came to the vocals.

It started with a solid performance by Paul Jolley  but some of the judges beat him up a bit.  He sounded great to me, so not sure I agree with their comments.  However, it was clear that the guys really came alive when my favorite singer of the night, Chicagoan Devin Velez hit the stage.  He put a twist on “Listen” with a Spanish break during the song and tore it up!  Another hometown favorite from Chicago, Curtis Finch Jr, stayed true to his consistent perfection and was a no brainer to sail through.  Charlie Askew also left his fans with something to talk about…coming out of his shell with his quirky behavior.

In the end, the guys were all entertaining, but most sounded better during the earlier round.  The top five guys who will round off the live shows include; Curtis Finch Jr, Elijah Liu, Paul Jolley (thanks to Jimmy Iovine), Charlie Askew, and Devin Valez. The judges pretty much got it right.

This is a great balance of talent and there truly is no front-runner yet…but some of the best singer’s in recent years.

On another note; I really thought Kevin Harris should have made it through.  But JDA going home was the right move.  Was it just me or do you agree?

(VIDEO) 9/14/11: “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT” FINALE; UNDERDOG WINS THE MILLION

The finals of America’s Got Talent aired tonight with the most incredible contestants of the entire series.  Unlike many other shows, it came down to the last performance since the other rounds were so good.  It ended with the top four being similar in the sense that two were “dance-like” acts (Team ILuminate & Silhouette) and two were singers (PopLyfe & Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.).

It was clear that they all wanted it badly, but with a song a bit too big the group, PopLyfe knocked themselves out of the running during their final performance.  They were the first to go and you could see their disappointment.  The next to go was Team ILuminate, which was a bit of a shocker, since they were consistently creative and innovative.  This left the remaining two brilliant and dynamic contestants Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. and Silhouette fighting it out for the million dollar prize and Vegas show.

In the end the public selected the most unlikely of them all, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. who was more like the underdog.  Although he sang his heart out and has a great voice, many had their bets on Silhouette. But Murphy winning was incredible to watch, since his dream was to support his family after previously working at a car wash and being homeless. He should inspire many and keep the American dream alive.  Don’t we all just love a fairytale ending.  It was an amazing finale to one of their best seasons to-date.

They were all incredibly talented so no complaints on my end.  Was he your choice to win?

VIDEO 9/13/11: “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT” FINALS; WHO WILL WIN?

America’s Got Talent aired the finals tonight with a host of incredibly talented contestants.  It was down to the final four including; Poplyfe, Silhouettes, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., and Team ILuminate.  This was definitely the best line-up of contestants since the shows inception, and most gave stand-out performances.

This will be a close race for three of them, unfortunately, my early favorite Poplyfe may have fallen short tonight.  It is truly anyones race, but my favorite performances of the evening were ILuminate and Silhouettes.  Their originality and perfection would do exceptionally well in Vegas and I see them going all the way.  They rocked it tonight!

In the end, the performers provided a season filled of excitement and a offered a big improvement over past contestants.  My only confusion is why a show called America’s Got Talent, has no American judge?  It seems as though the British continue to take over our airwaves and isn’t Howie Mandel Canadian?  I guess America’s Got Talent, just not with judges…not that I don’t love Sharon Osbourne.
