MEREDITH VIEIRA signed off today for the last time, as co-host of the “Today” show on NBC. She spent the past five years on the network and was well liked by many.
If you were not fortunate enough to see her final farewell show, you missed a great ride. After the show aired a very well produced video of her top segments, and Carol King serenade, they did something very touching. They ran her off the set with her co-worker’s leading the way hand-in-hand, directly into a flash mob dance outside the studio. It is something you rarely see these days when someone leaves a job, so it was a truly great experience. She was moved to tears, which made it extra special.
In the of era of continuous layoffs and very little employer loyalty, it was nice to see a person leave with a warm farewell. Wouldn’t it be great to have your co-worker’s and employer do something so special upon your departure? In the “real world” it typically comes with a pink slip and an escort out the door.
Congrats to Meredith on her new venture, and a big shout-out to the producer’s who actually cared enough about an employee to give them an unforgettable farewell party. Many employer’s should take note and do the same. A cheap watch or pink slip is just not enough.
Ann Curry will replace Meredith as host of the “Today”. She will have big shoes to fill, but probably can hold her own!
