The press loves an overnight sensation and they actually have found one, or maybe two. During Vancouver’s unfortunate riots, after losing the Stanley Cup hockey finals, a couple was filmed laying amidst the chaos kissing while in a loving embrace.
Since the photo’s became so popular, the media put out requests to identify the couple and it worked. The man in the photo is as an Australian bartender/comedian and a women is a Canadian. Scott Jones a 29-year-old from Perth and his Canadian girlfriend, Alexandra Thomas, were finally identified by his relatives as the photo’s received “world-wide” attention.
The story broke when the couple was photographed kissing, during intense riots which began in Vancouver after the Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals this week. The photo’s instantly became viral and the couple soaked up their “5 minutes” of fame, with interviews on news outlets and tons of press.
Scott’s mother excitedly told the news outlet Ninemsn, “I knew it was him because he doesn’t have a lot of clothes with him, and he always puts on the same thing”. And you can be certain, a mother knows her kids. She went on to say, “It certainly gives him more material for his routine”. “But I don’t think he would have planned it. He doesn’t think like that. He just reacts, and the whole world goes on around him. Teachers always said he didn’t engage with what’s going on.”
As the photo’s then went viral, his friends left notes on his Facebook page letting him know he was now “famous”. It is amazing how easy it is to receive your “5 minutes” of fame these days, but making “love not war” is the best way to do so.
It was funny to hear that Scott posted this reply on his Facebook: “Classic! This was shortly after the riot police run over the top of us and naturally Alex needed some comforting”. Now that is love…or is it? There are rumor’s that this was all staged, but would that be worth the risk? I certainly would not be caught lying in the street kissing in the middle of a riot for attention. Would you?
