The X FACTOR finale was tonight and one contestant left with something big to celebrate this Christmas.  It was down to Chris Rene, Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik hoping to go all the way.  But who sang the $5 million dollar song last night?  Was it Chris singing “Young Homie”, Josh belting out “At Last” or Melanie nailing “I Believe I Can Fly?”

The show opened with this season’s twelve finalists performing together.  Marcus Canty, Rachel Crow, Astro, The Stero Hogzz, LeRoy Bell, Drew, ITensity and other top finalists seemed excited to be back.  But it was obvious that they wished they were in the finals and were probably thinking “This should have been me!”  Unfortunately their millions and recording contracts will have to wait.

This was a finale where it was anyone’s game, which really added to the excitement of watching it unfold.  Simon Cowell made sure to create a show stopping finale by tapping into his contacts.  This included performances by singing sensation Justin Bieber, X Factor winner Leona Lewis, rap artist 50 Cent, Pit Bull and legendary singer Stevie Wonder.  One complaint with that line-up is that 50 Cent didn’t write a clean version of the rap song , I hate when they have to bleep out words…and isn’t this a kid friendly show?  But at least Astro got to perform with him.

It came down to who had the overall package because they all had something special and unique. Melanie was consistent throughout the season and has a spectacular voice.  Chris is an incredible song writer and offers exciting performances.  Josh has a soulful and unique sound and delivers authentic interpretations with every song.  But what was more important to the viewers?  Singing ability or likeability.

After the top three performed Christmas carols, probably wishing they would just get down to the votes, they  were finally able to find who was an instant millionaire.  But not before they had to drag it out a bit with performances by the guest artists and other fillers.  And of course, airing the most shocking moments of the season, including the breakdown of Rachel Crow and the temper tantrum by Astro.

In the end, although Chris was one of the favorites to win, he was the first to find out his journey had ended.  This was no real shock, because although he had millions of fans and viral videos, he was definitely not he best singer, and remember this is a singing competition.  No worries for fans of Chris…as long as he stays clean he will have a very successful ride!  Still love “Young Homie”:).

This left Melanie and Josh waiting to hear their fate.  However, to add to the drama they first had to sing a duet together.  It really allowed us to hear them side-by-side to decide who had the better voice, and it was clear they were equals.

Melanie and Josh looked as though they would pass out as Steve Jones got ready to announce the winner of the $5 million dollar recording contract.  It has been well documented throughout the competition that Simon wanted to win badly, so he also looked nervous.  It is a fact that he hates to lose so for him, so this was not an option.  Especially not to Nicole!

Well, it was always my belief that Josh would win, but with Simon as her mentor, no big surprise.  And the winner isMelanie Amaro!  Good for her, she deserves it!  But I think Simon may have had a hand in this. They also should reconsider having someone sing after they have been told they won $5 Million dollars!  She barely made it through her final performance because she was so emotional.

On a side note, Steve Jones better watch his back.  Rachel Crow told him outright that she wants his job, but move over girl, I want it too!  I’m still waiting for Simon to call me after watching my audition video:).

The X Factor is down to the final 5 contestants.  Tonight was the most energetic of all shows, since they finally selected current dance songs as the theme.  Finally!  Some of the music I love and they sounded great. The singers had to really step it up tonight, since they had two songs to deliver with perfection tonight.

And the twist was brutal…after practicing them for a week, they had to switch them the night before!  Trying to prepare them for anything, is necessary but cruel:).

ROUND ONE First song of the night

Melanie Amaro was the first to perform, and actually looked her best since the competition started.  She sounded amazing singing the remix of the hit song by Adele, “Someone Like You”.  Although she said dance music was not her thing, she could have fooled me.  It was a great choice for her and she blew it away.  This is one of my favorite songs by Adele so glad she sang it well!

Rachel Crow actually gave one of her best performances.  While I have been tough on her because she seems the most inconsistent, she did sound good.  It was strange that she sang the hit song “Beautiful Girls” by Bruno Mars, which addresses girls, so I have to agree with L.A. Reid on that one.   But I just love any Bruno song, so you can’t go too wrong with that choice.

Josh Krajcik received mixed reviews after singing the new song by Rihanna “We Found Love”.  I actually thought he sounded incredible.  He is so authentic and could sing anything and get away with it.  This guy is a hit maker and can do no wrong.  They were absolutely wrong if they heard anything other than perfection.

Marcus Canty has become a very good performer.  He is very likeable and sounds good but this was my favorite performance from him.  Singing to the remake of the Chaka khan classic “Aint Nobody”, he was entertaining, but still lacks something.  It is hard to put a finger on what’s missing with him for me.  But he tries and big props to him for that.

Chris Rene sang the popular song by Rihanna, “Live Your Life”.  He is one of the favorites and it is due to his original lyrics.  Although he is not the best singer in the competition, his creativity in song writing will get him far and insure his success. I liked his version.

ROUND TWO Redemption songs-Tonight’s twist made them switch songs at the last-minute

Melanie Amaro slowed it down on her second performance.  Singing Whitney Houston’s (and Mariah Carey’s) hit “When You Believe” with a choir in the backdrop, she gave it her all.  It was a perfect selection, because her making it this far after Simon originally voting her off is a miracle.  She is the most consistent singer, next to Josh…incredible!

Marcus Canty has been in the bottom twice in a row.  So his second song choice was the most important of them all.  He switched his song at the last-minute and he was lucky he did.  It was one of his best performances so far, too bad he probably will be on the “hot seat” again tomorrow. Unfortunately, him singing the inspirational hit “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway, may not be enough to save him.

Josh Krajcik is at the top of the polls when it comes to voters.  He is the most soulful of them all and his second song choice showed it off.  Him singing The Beatles smash “Something In The Way She Moves” with his unique raspy voice, put him in an entirely different league. And I don’t even typically like The Beatles.  He is incredible and knows how to rock it!

Chris Rene shared his special moment of receiving a call from Stevie wonder prior to his second performance.  His original music is fitting and he has a signature “grunt” in parts which makes him stand out.  I actually like him performing original material better than cover songs.  He is going to be huge…he has another hit on his hands.

Who is going home tomorrow?  I seem to be wrong most nights, but it seems like Rachel and Marcus are going to need to sing for their lives.  Just hoping my top three favorites stick around…Josh, Chris and Melanie.

THE X FACTOR elimination show was tonight, leaving only 10 contestants remaining.  But this comes after a bit of controversy this week, with rumors flying about obvious lip syncing during the competition.  Seems like many caught the fact that contestant Leroy Bell’s performance of Usher’s song “Without You”, did not match the track.

Fox has to be given a lot of credit, because they owned up and confessed.  In a statement they told reporters; X Factor performances that are not judged by Simon and his crew, may feature them singing over pre-recorded tracks.

According to reports, this is not unusual and even American Idol does it.  Well, as we all know Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, other recording artists and even President Obama lip-sync on occasion.  So does it really make a difference?  Not sure it does, as long as they had to sing live to get this far.  But I wish they would let me lip sync….I would love to get in the competition and try for the $5 million!

Well, on to the juicy scoop.  After the group performance, Willow Smith sang her new single, looking as though she weighs only 2 pounds.  Her song was fitting because she certainly is a firecracker!  It appears Will and Jada Smith have another hit maker in the family, keeping true to the statement “The rich get richer!”

It was not surprising that Paula Abdul was left in the cold, once again, as the other judges’ contestants sailed through.  The Stero Hogzz and Lakoda Rayne found themselves in the bottom two, having to sing for survival.  The groups definitely have a harder time connecting with the audience, so it was clear very early on, they would be picked off one-by-one.  It was sad to see Paula’s disappointment, but she should hold her head up high, because she actually has done a really great job mentoring them.

After the two groups sang their hearts out, it came down to who the judges liked best.  The fact that cute girls had to compete with a group of guys probably gave them an advantage.  Especially seeing Simon “likes the ladies!”  Side note, was I the only one who saw a little conversation during Lakoda Rayne’s performance….what was that all about?  One things for sure Lakoda Rayne definitely did not lip sync tonight, because they sounded really off!

In the end, Paula did not want to vote for any of her groups and she actually had a mini-breakdown.  Through her tears she said she refused to vote, but after some prodding by Simon, she voted to keep the Stero Hoggz.  Sadly enough her last minute vote did not help, because the Stero Hogzz were sent packing.  Based on tonight’s performance, it should have been Lakoda Rayne.

The final ten contestants left in the competition are Chris Rene, Stacy Francis, Josh Krajcik, Melanie Amaro, Astro, Lakoda Rayne, Rachel Crow, LeRoy Bell, Drew, and Marcus Canty.  Who do you think will win?

When will you call me Simon?  Seriously, I have practiced and am ready to be a guest judge.  I promise not to have a meltdown, and to send someone home!
