Well, no big surprise Katie Couric has confirmed she is officially leaving as anchor at CBS Evening Newsdesk. It has been rumored for some time now, and we all know there is some truth in every rumor. But is she set to take over the missing spot Oprah leaves behind? Not sure, but it is likely they will want to replace Oprah’s talk show with another strong woman. So don’t be shocked when you see Couric take the stage to host a woman’s daytime talk show in the coming months.
During a recent People Magazine interview she said, “I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News”. “I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years”. Wrapping up the interview with, “In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.”
Looks like she did the right thing. Couric set herself up for success, taking on the big job as first female nightly news anchor, then using it as stepping stone to secure her own show. She was the only female evening news anchor in the United States from September 5, 2006, until December 21, 2009.
Great job Katie, you should be an incredible replacement for the void in TV talk show land!
