AMERICAN IDOL had a scare tonight as the judges truly earned their millions.  The ending had fans in shock and shouting in disbelief, and that included me.  It came down to the bottom three stunning us all, and one of the best singers almost going home.

The show was packed with performances tonight.  The show started with the remaining contestants singing Pink’s popular tune “Raise Your Glass“.  Then former Idol finalist James Durbin performed his new rock song, which was followed by a polished performance by Jennifer Hudson singing alongside Neo.  She sounded and looked great and brought the audience to their feet with her new single “Think Like A Man“.  Listen to the lyrics and fall in love with this message!

Getting down to serious business, the first two called to center stage were Hollie and Jessica.  Ryan Seacrest asked them to create two sides, obviously to keep the suspense going.  As Hollie headed to the opposite side of the stage, she had a look of horror and must have thought to herself “darn, I want to be on Jessica’s side”.  Especially after Jimmy Iovine totally ripped her last performance, calling her “stiff” in comparison to Jessica.  But was she right in thinking that?

So let’s cut to the chase, the huge shock tonight was just how badly America got it wrong.  The bottom three singers were Elise, Jessica and Josh, making me wonder if a producer put the wrong names on the card.  Josh and Jessica are clearly the best singers in this competition.  But another thing which could have happened; people did not vote and expected them to sail through.

Does the show do this to keep the fans on their toes?  Sometimes it makes me think they do this on purpose to add suspense.  Jessica Sanchez was on her way home?  This seems crazy and now makes me take back my angry statement about the judges keeping their save from Deandre Brackensick.  It was good to see Jennifer Lopez grab the microphone out of her hand and say “of course we’re using the save!”  No need for Jessica to continue her song, her tears were all for nothing.

Who will win Idol?  If America actually gets it right Jessica Sanchezshould be the clear winnerBut Josh and Colton will definitely give her a run for the money, so she better watch her back!  Come on America…pick up the phone and vote for the best singers, or we will end up with the “second best” as the winner.

In the end no one went home on Idol tonight, but that means two will leave next week. Let’s hope it is NOT Jessica or Josh.

On another note, Jimmy really seems to love Skylar…but she really is not a top pick for me. But she did hang on once again, so maybe America is feeling her too.

American Idol contestants have all stepped up their game during the final stretch.  With only three weeks left until the finals, the last seven remaining singer’s obviously want it bad.  But in watching the show tonight, one thing was confirmed…the clear winner for me is Jessica Sanchez.

While Josh will definitely give her a run for the money, she is just more versatile.  I can also see her receiving votes from a wider audience which should help her across the finish line.  Josh is an amazing singer and received another standing ovation by the judges tonight.  Unfortunately, he may not be a “cross over” enough singer to secure the full support needed to win.

There are other contestants singing their hearts out and should find success after Idol.  Phillip is a pure entertainer, but is too stuck in being “authentic” and “not enough into pleasing the fans”, just making music.  Elise has a unique voice and has had a few brilliant performances, but is not consistent enough to win. Colton seems ready to record now and should be a part of the top three.  But not sure if he is “too rock”, limiting his voter support.  Skylar should do well in the country world, but something about her is still a bit annoying.  Hollie is a shining star and has an incredible voice, but still needs more experience and guidance.

Each week it becomes anyones game because they truly are “as good as their last performance”.  However, based on the overall performances this season, the most consistent singer prime and ready for the crown…is hands down Jessica Sanchez.

If America gets it right…the top three will be Jessica, Josh and Colton, in that exact order.  Who will leave Idol tomorrow night?  Either Hollie or Elise may be sent packing.

On another note, I am still miffed that the judges did not save Deandre Brackensick.  He would have been in my top three picks for sure.  Since they held “the save” they better use it for Josh or Jessica if needed.  Let’s face it, there is no one else who deserves a save.

AMERICAN IDOL is down to the final eight contestants and the cut will be brutal this week.  In the past eleven seasons, when it got to this number it was fairly simple to pick off the week links.  But tonight the performances were so strong, it is difficult to determine who will be in the bottom three tomorrow night.

While they all were stellar and sang with passion, the stand-out were definitely Josh, DeAndre, Colton and Jessica.  My absolute favorites were DeAndre, who slayed the classic hitI Like It by Debarge and Josh who brought down the house with the Simply Red version of If You Don’t Know Me By Now“.  Colton added an amazing twist to the popular song Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper.  And yes, the drummer rocked it out!

And I must say for the first time this season, Skylar finally made me take notice.  She often prances around the stage a bit wildly and normally annoys me.  But tonight she stood on stage and belted out the song with no frills, which was refreshing.  She actually gave her best performance of the entire season.

The duets were also outstanding and they are much more enjoyable to watch than the group songs of the past.  It was exciting to see them pair up similar singers, but the best of the best was Josh and Jessica.  They sounded great together and pulled each other up, reaching new heights.

It’s hard to tell who may end up at the bottom this week, but my guess is would be Elise, Phillip and Hollie.  Although the only one who truly picked the wrong song was Elise.  While the others also gave solid performances, someone has to receive the lowest amount of votes.

This may not be the most memorable season, but the talent surpasses all other seasons.  The bottomline…top eight is great!

On another note, if I had to judge the judges, Jennifer Lopez has stepped up her game.  She is by far the most comprehensive of them all and has the best advice when it comes to input.  Randy needs a better line than “Who’s gotta to have it?” is about as bad as “Come on dog!”.
