Millions of hopefuls are praying they pick the lucky Powerball winning numbers on Wednesday 11/28/12. The jackpot has reached $550 million and growing, with a payout of over $327 million after taxes. It’s the largest Powerball jackpot in history and is only second to this March’s $656 million Mega Millions prize.
The unfortunate part about this far-fetched dream, is with 105,000 tickets being sold per minute in 42 states, your chances of winning are very low. But should you be that extremely lucky person to win, you may want to go into hiding. Also make sure to put it in a TRUST without your name on it. This is a half billion dollars for goodness sake— which will have your family and friends licking their chops. And strangers will also have their hands out for sure and send you sob stories about why you should help them.
Well, if you really want to increase your chances, you may want to head to Indiana to buy your ticket, where 38 winning tickets have been sold. That is more than any other state. Or maybe Missouri, which has also had a huge amount of lucky residents (26 winners). But Florida seems to sell the most tickets and 4 big winners have been announced there in the past three years! They estimate over $1 Billion in ticket sales by the end of tomorrow, so the extra $1 they charge is adding up.
While this may seem like the ultimate plan to pay off those bills, travel, help family, buy expensive luxury items, or a big fancy home….most of us will wake up the next day realizing it was only a dream.
It is likely more than one person will pick the winning numbers and have to split it, but who cares…$550 million is certainly enough to share. You would have to spend over $10 million a year for the next 30 years to spend it all! Seriously, the only people who can do that are celebrities.
On another note…my biggest fear is that I will win the $550 million and doomsday will actually happen on 12/21/12…ending the world and my short-lived life of wealth.
