[2014 VIDEO] ARE SINGING COMPETITION SHOWS ON THE WAY OUT? AMERICAN IDOL & THE VOICE FIGHT TO STICK AROUND

28 May

Sorry, it’s been a while since my last blog post.  My real estate world has been so busy that it gives me little time to write.  But today I reflected back on a video I posted on The X Factor long before its demise.  It’s funny to see that all predictions came true.  If only Simon Cowell would have listened to my suggestions, his show may have had the success and longevity of American Idol.  Such a waste of a well produced show, I was sorry to see it canceled in the U.S.

This year the singing competition shows were all a complete bore.  I cringed while watching American Idol and The Voice.  They were both lacking their original magic…so I could only bear watching a few episodes.  The judges were not fresh and the contestants did not have the excitement of past singers.  Was it just me?  Or were you thinking the same thing?

Even the return of Jennifer Lopez to American Idol was clearly disappointing.  While she will forever be my favorite judge on any singing competition show, the chemistry was just not there.  Did she even like Harry Connick, Jr?  JLo even looked slightly bored on several of the shows.  It may have just been a quick payday for her or something to boost her new CD.  But she should have just had a V8:)

Are singing competition shows on the way out?  Probably so.  It will be interesting to see just how long American Idol and The Voice will stick around.  Maybe we are burning out on these type of shows and need something fresh to watch.  Reality TV appears to be strong and not going anywhere anytime soon.  But they may need to find better ways to promote singers in a new light.  Will America’s Got Talent do it this season?  We shall see…

That’s OK, but, listen, I know that you may be hard to please, as far as “American Idol” and “The Voice” are concerned, but, Mr. Cowell is doing fine judging his own “The X-Factor” show in the U. K. And as for Harry Connick, Jr.? He’s Simon Cowell 2.0!:)

By the way, there have been reports about Ms. Lopez, Mr. Connick, and Mr. Urban returning to “American Idol” for Season 14, so that will be nice for me. Anyway, I don’t think that singing competition series are a fad, because there are additional shows that are coming up, such as “Rising Star” and “Sing Your Face Off” from ABC, and “Copycats” from MTV.

Cassie…you may be right. But the new shows seem to have a twist! Which appear to be more fresh. We shall see if they return to AI.

Love your Brittney Spears imitation… totally spot on.☺ Simon looks like he’s put on 30 pounds and had a bad face lift recently. Sing Your Face Off premiered last night… didn’t watch! Couldn’t pass up the “2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions” on HBO. It was like having a full on concert in my living room. But SYFO while different (from what I’ve read), also seems to have a stupid premise. But at least the judges are online (Skype?) from all over the country (nearly like your suggestion). From what I’ve read “Rising Star” may have the most potential, but I think these type of shows have seen their day. AI next season will have a reduced number of episodes, and (promises) will only have 1 hour episodes. These 2 hour episodes, with only 3 contestants remaining, rarely live up to the promises of having super star guests, etc., and frankly are just boring. Glad you’ve found the time to blog, but also happy that your real estate business is doing well.

Thanks Tom! I have not watched any of the new shows…kinda of on burnout. But I will at least give them a try at some point. Happy to hear from you:).
