WHY PATTI PIES WENT VIRAL…FINALLY POSITIVE NEWS!

Published 11/18/15

pieMany are wondering why Patti Labelles’ now famous Sweet Potato pies have gone viral.  Well, let’s face it…this is definitely timing.

In a world so full of destruction and violence; a small break from reality is exactly what we all needed.  Hence, the focus around something so simple as a pie.

The viral video posted by James Wright received millions of views within days.  If you haven’t viewed it take a look here and get your laugh on!  He is said to be a part of the reason why so many Walmart stores sold out of the pies within hours.

So for those who believe it’s insane that people are focusing on something as trivial as a pie…it comes down to happiness.  We as humans are naturally designed to desire positivity in our lives…so this fills the void.

And for the unlucky ones who were unable to get a bite into the pie, I can attest…it’s really tasty!  I was able to steal a crumb recently and thoroughly enjoyed it!

As for Ms. Patti Labelle…we wish you continued success and thank you for providing a tiny moment of joy in our lives.  Even if it comes from a pie:).

DO YOU STILL BLOG? RECENT NEWS AND INQUIRING MINDS INSPIRE RETURN

Blogger Brittaj17

Blogger Brittaj17

It has been a while since my last blog. Many have asked the question “Do you still blog?” Well…that finally inspired me to write again. If you’re a blogger you can probably relate to “writers block”; which is apparently the syndrome I was dealing with for the past few month’s. The thoughts were in my head of many things I wanted to write about, but my fingers refused to cooperate!

So what’s been going on in the world? Well, we all know Simon Cowell shared some good and bad news recently. The self-absorbed ego maniac finally gave birth to a baby boy named Eric (how original).  We are all hopeful this will now remind him that “the world does NOT revolve around Simon”.  However, with the good comes the bad; he also learned his beloved creation The X Factor was canceled after only 3 seasons.  Now this was disappointing to hear, because the production value and talent far exceeded any other singing competition.  Oh well!  I guess The Voice knocked him off his feet.

Other happenings…the return of Jennifer Lopez (aka JLo) to American Idol this season.  It was exhilarating to hear she would join the lackluster team of judges.  She is clearly the best judge of any show and offers the most comprehensive advice.  Unfortunately, for me the show seems VERY flat this year and I’m not sure she can save them.  Idol may need some type of boost or may find themselves on the chopping block along with The X Factor.  It is shocking, since the early rounds showcased some great talent…but they obviously cut the WRONG singers.  The chemistry among judges also seems to be lacking…although Harry Connick Jr can be pretty funny.  Am I alone with these thoughts?  Make sure to chime in.

Did you hear about the Las Vegas gambler?  It was funny to hear that a man apparently consumed over 20 drinks while at the casino and lost over $500k!  Of course, he is doing the “American thing”; suing the casino for loaning him all that cash while intoxicated.  Let’s hope Californian Mark Johnston refrains from gambling while drunk in the future.  Will he win the case?  Probably, since it’s illegal for casino’s to loan money while consumers are intoxicated. Only in America!

Who can forget the outrage felt around the world about the verdict in the “Loud Music Shooting?”  It was very disappointing to hear that teens can be killed over something so trivial and a man can basically “get off” on murder charges.  Let’s face it, Michael Dunn could have called the police and gone about his business.  If he was so fearful for his life, why did he follow them and become a reckless vigilante?  Why do we need police if civilians can run around with guns, shooting people like in the “Wild Wild West”.  There was clearly malice and intent for him to shoot at them so many times.  Did the jury really have to fight about this verdict?  Seriously, this was an “open and shut” case.  Whoever believes this was NOT about race is delusional.   Hoping that 17-year-old Jordan Davis haunts Dunn in his dreams.  That man deserves to suffer for a very long time.

How does a huge airplane come up missing?  Well this is hard to comprehend, but it happened this week.  Apparently Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 lost contact with air control and 239 crew and passengers are now missing.  Wow…it seems like a scene from a movie.  Let’s hope they find it and all are safe.

Of course there has been so much more interesting news.  However, this is just my quick return to the “blogging world“.  Thanks to my loyal follower’s for asking…and inspiring me to write again.  But it is the start of the spring housing market, so let’s hope that does not slow my blogging down again!

(VIDEO) DEADLY GUN VIOLENCE MUST END…TOO MANY TEDDY BEARS IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES

Unfortunately, the gun violence in Chicago has reached an all-time high.  Each day we lose young innocent teens on the streets, usually just at the wrong place at the wrong time.  The above video is a sign of the times across the country.  And with the recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, this message stretches beyond our city streets.

It’s sad that the new generation of youth cannot enjoy the simple times of yesterday.  Schools used to be the only safe-haven for those living in gang infested areas.  But to hear of such devastation, even in a tight-knit small community such as Newtown, crushes that hope.  Where can they feel safe?

The guns need to come out of the hands of irresponsible civilians. There is absolutely no need for them to have  semi-automatic assault rifles.  If guns continue to flow freely in the streets, how do we expect the senseless violence to end?

If you have the passion to hear what our youth is feeling…listen to the words in this heart-felt video.  It is called Too Many Teddy Bears which is a sad reality.  What a powerful message…the lyrics will chill your bones.

When a deadly shooting can happen at an elementary school in Newtown…it can happen anywhere.

NAMES OF THE SANDY HOOK VICTIMS RELEASED TODAY…TRAGIC. https://brittaj17.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/121412-sandy-hook-ct-school-shooting-victims-names-released-to-public-today-tragic/

(VIDEO) 2011 OPRAH INTERVIEWS TORTURED CHILD LOCKED IN CLOSET, CLAYTON SPEAKS OUT

WATCH CHILLING VIDEO ON OPRAH

Today OPRAH interviewed Clayton, who is now a young vibrant 19-year-old.  But when he was only 6-years-old, his torture at the hands of his parents made national news.

Back in 1999, Clayton was severely abused by his parents who chained him in a closet and did unthinkable things to him for several months. The small child was starved, beaten, fed soap, and tortured at the hands of his dad and stepmother. Details of his abuse were outlined during his compelling interview with Oprah. Clayton was also reunited with the officer who rescued him long ago.

Clayton was rescued by an incredible officer, Deputy Todd Pate, over 13-years ago when his gut told him something was terribly wrong.  The officer was smart enough to know the social worker who visited the home, reporting all was fine, was horribly mistaken.  At the time officer Pate was only 28-years-old, but had the insight to go with his instinct, which is amazing.  When the step-sister of the small boy ran away, officer Pate asked the parents to pick her up, knowing they would bring their little boy.  The trap worked and he was able to obtain details of the abuse from the child and quickly arrested the parents.

It is unbelievable that the after all the torture Clayton had to endure, the parents were given mild sentences.  The parents Joseph and Carmen Grad, only served a small portion of their sentence in jail. The father spent only 21 months of his 4 year sentence in jail and the stepmother did even less time.  If this had happened now, they would have received a much tougher penalty.

What a sad story of abuse and torture of an innocent child.  It is hard to believe the state of mind someone has to be in, to harm a child especially at this level.  At that age, there is clearly no reason on earth that he could have done anything at all, to deserve such abuse.

It was disturbing to hear his story, but hopefully it will allow others in similar situations to speak out and get help.  We know children are tortured and abused every day. Maybe others will look for abuse happening in their community and report it…better safe than sorry.

Hats off to the officer for doing the right thing and digging deeper to save him. Hats off to Clayton for sharing his story to help others.  Hats off to the family member who adopted him.  Hats off to Oprah for allowing him to speak.

[2014 VIDEO] ARE SINGING COMPETITION SHOWS ON THE WAY OUT? AMERICAN IDOL & THE VOICE FIGHT TO STICK AROUND

Sorry, it’s been a while since my last blog post.  My real estate world has been so busy that it gives me little time to write.  But today I reflected back on a video I posted on The X Factor long before its demise.  It’s funny to see that all predictions came true.  If only Simon Cowell would have listened to my suggestions, his show may have had the success and longevity of American Idol.  Such a waste of a well produced show, I was sorry to see it canceled in the U.S.

This year the singing competition shows were all a complete bore.  I cringed while watching American Idol and The Voice.  They were both lacking their original magic…so I could only bear watching a few episodes.  The judges were not fresh and the contestants did not have the excitement of past singers.  Was it just me?  Or were you thinking the same thing?

Even the return of Jennifer Lopez to American Idol was clearly disappointing.  While she will forever be my favorite judge on any singing competition show, the chemistry was just not there.  Did she even like Harry Connick, Jr?  JLo even looked slightly bored on several of the shows.  It may have just been a quick payday for her or something to boost her new CD.  But she should have just had a V8:)

Are singing competition shows on the way out?  Probably so.  It will be interesting to see just how long American Idol and The Voice will stick around.  Maybe we are burning out on these type of shows and need something fresh to watch.  Reality TV appears to be strong and not going anywhere anytime soon.  But they may need to find better ways to promote singers in a new light.  Will America’s Got Talent do it this season?  We shall see…

{VIDEO} WHO WON THE X FACTOR USA 2013? FINALE RECAP….AND THE WINNER IS?

Well, as far as I know all bets were on the right contestant to win The X Factor.  And it was good to see America got it right!  The final three were down to Alex & Sierra, Jeff Gutt and Chicago’s very own Carlito Olivero.  While they all fought hard until the end, the most unique and talented singers pulled ahead when it counted most.

First let’s begin with the production and entertainment value of the finale.  In my opinion it was more like a holiday concert which is really not my thing.  Although One Direction, the biggest group in the World performed, and fan favorite Pit Bull belted out his hit song “Timber“, it was not enough to outshine this years The Voice” season finale.

It was definitely not my favorite ending of a singing competition show, but the announcement of deserving winner made it all good.  Yes, if you guessed it was Alex & Sierra running away with the $1M recording contract…you are correct!  Their performance of “Say Something” certainly sealed the deal.  I am truly happy for them and know they will have a very long career in the music industry…well, if they can just keep their relationship in check.  This win will absolutely change the dynamics of their lives.

Congrats to the three finalist; they ALL gave 100% until the end and should do well long after The X Factor!

On another note, it was sad to see the very talented Jeff Gutt leave without a win, but he will no longer need to worry.  This also goes for the fighter Carlito Olivero, Chicago and his parents are proud and he will now have the ability to help support them!

{VIDEO} X FACTOR USA 2013; CHICAGO’S CARLITO OLIVERO FIGHTS HARD UNTIL THE END

Chicago’s very own, Carlito Olivero, made it all the way to the finals on The X Factor.  That alone was a triumph for this young man, who fought hard and gave his all, even through the many challenges thrown his way.  Some doubted him…but he kept pushing. His passion and endurance is an inspiration to the youth around the globe.

It was exciting to hear his name called as one of the top three finalists, especially after he fell to the bottom two multiple times.  This is a perfect example of how you can come from poverty and still make something of yourself with hard work and perseverance. How can you not LOVE a fighter?

The judges may have given him harsh critiques along the way, but he took note and made adjustments.  Carlito was hungry for a win and obviously wanted it bad.  There was no stopping him, which even earned him the respect of the sometimes grumpy Simon Cowell.

While Carlito was up against major competition; Alex & Sierra and Jeff Gutt, getting this far is already a win for this Chicago native.  He will always have a special place in the hearts of many and especially those in the Windy City.  Trust me, the fans are rooting for him and want to see him succeed long after this show.

Go Carlito!  Wishing you all the success you deserve…win or lose on The X Factor, you are already a WINNER to us all.

[VIDEO] WHO WON ‘THE VOICE’ 2013? RECAP & REVIEWS…AND THE WINNER IS?

So who won “The Voice” 2013?  Well, first let me start with just how much I enjoyed the finale.  It was full of excitement and guest performances which were flawless.

My personal favorite was the performance by WORLD renowned artist Lady Gaga!  I wondered how she would pull off her mega hit Do What You Want without R. Kelly, but her replacement, Christina Aguilera, did it justice.  They rocked it….and it was purely entertaining.  If you missed it, check out the video below…it will blow your mind!

The collaboration of Celene Dion and Tessanne Chin was my second favorite performance.  It was obvious this finalist was in awe singing with such a superstar.

When the top contestants joined the three finalists, Jacquie Lee, Will Champlin and Tessanne Chin
this was also jaw dropping.  They were all so good!  It reminded me just how much talent was unveiled this season on The Voice.

In the end, it was no surprise that the clear favorite won ‘The Voice’.  Yes, it was Tessanne Chin….Yes she deserved it…Yes she is already a SUPERSTAR…Yes, she was my pick to WIN.  This was a no brainer…she is seasoned, flawless and pure perfection. Jamaica was certainly cheering for her…I could hear them all the way in CHICAGO!

Very happy that ‘Team Adam’ finally beat out Blake Shelton…was getting a bit tired of his bragging.  Maybe Blake will be a bit more reserved next season!  Now Mr. Levine can be the “Sexiest Man Alive” AND The Voice winner!

Great job to the producers…by far their BEST finale yet. However, I do have one question for them.  Why would they shove a mic in the hands of the winner and make them sing after telling them they won?  How crazy is that!  She could barely get the notes out….surprised she even remembered the lyrics:).

On another note, I am really happy to see Christina in a more humble light.  At least this year it is not ALL ABOUT HER.  Maybe her new confidence since slimming down has brought our her “better side”. She normally annoys me…:).

COMPARE THE DUET WITH THE LADY GAGA & R. KELLY VERSION BELOW….THOUGHTS?

[VIDEO 2013] WARREN BUFFETT ANNOUNCES BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY MERGER…KOENIG & STREY – PRUDENTIAL RUBLOFF JOIN FORCES

On Tuesday November 12, 2013, billionaire Warren Buffett made an exciting announcement; about two legendary Chicago real estate firms set to merge this spring.  Luxury home sales powerhouse Koenig & Strey Real Living and Prudential Rubloff will join forces under his Berkshire Hathaway brand.  They are set to become one of the top real estate brokerage firms in the entire Chicagoland area, gaining a huge percentage of market share.

Essentially, Prudential Rubloff sold its ownership interest in their company to Home Services of America; a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate.  Making this the most notable real estate merger in Chicago’s history.  Both firms are leaders in the luxury housing market and their similar styles make this a perfect fit.

Over 400 agents showed up to a last-minute surprise meeting at the Drake Hotel, after receiving an email invitation late in the day on Monday (including me!).  It was a shock to hear about the merger, not because it was unexpected, but due to the complete secrecy of this news.  There were no rumors nor talks in advance throughout the company, at least not at an agents level.

The exciting part about this merger, is that they will now both fall under the prestigious Berkshire Hathaway brand.  The company was named The World’s Most Admired Companieswhich offers buyers and sellers even more confidence when using its services.  Major backing of these exclusive firms by Buffett was confirmed; since it is the FIRST time he has allowed a real estate affiliate to fall under the prestigious Berkshire Hathaway name.

(VIDEO) THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY MOVIE REVIEWS…LIVES UP TO THE HYPE!

‘The Best Man Holiday’ hit theatres this weekend to rave reviews.  Many questioned if it would live up to all the hype and let me tell you…it absolutely does.  It was shocking to realize the original film ‘The Best Man’ was released 15 years ago!

There is no question it was worth the wait and they actually got it better the second time around.  They took the long break to fine tune the character’s and clearly the actors have grown significantly over time.  It was funny to see how much they have all changed over the year’s and how much they have refined their craft.

There are no words to express the joy in seeing such great acting and a script which was realistic and well-balanced.  Will you laugh….absolutely.  Will you cry…for sure.  Will you leave feeling good…definitely.  Will you be glad you saw it…darn right!  Finally a movie worth my hard-earned money…after a year full of duds.

It has an all-star cast including; Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau , Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall.  Most of them can thank the original movie for launching very successful acting careers.

Since it is no fun watching a film after someone blows it by telling you the entire plot…I will leave you with the above trailer to wet your whistle.  But I will say that if you want to escape for a mere 120 minutes, go check it out!  I give it TWO TOES UP! (cannot use thumbs and risk being sued:)

Wait…did I say how HILARIOUS Terrance Howard was in this movie???  Well, he stole the show and was INCREDIBLE in this role!  And the handsome men doing their dance moves while “air singing” was worth an extra $10 bucks:).

On another note, I heard it is already breaking box office records.  The movie bumped “THOR: THE DARK WORLD” by raking in $10.7 million its first night!  Let’s hope Hollywood takes note… there really is a pent-up demand for GOOD black films.  Clearly we need more…maybe they will get the message.

Just in case the director Malcolm D. Lee does not win an OSCAR…he is hereby nominated BEST DIRECTOR by my blog:).  Did you know he is the cousin of director Spike Lee?  Trivia for your mind!

DID YOU SEE THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY?  WHAT DID YOU THINK?  POST YOUR COMMENTS AND TAKE THE POLL BELOW!
