[VIDEO] SEASON 16 OF DANCING WITH THE STARS AIRS 3/18/13; BUT WHO’S WATCHING?

The new season of Dancing with The Stars airs tonight.  While I have to admit, it was previously my guilty pleasure, last season I was over the show.  However, this year I will definitely tune in to see Lisa Vanderpump (Housewives’ star), Kellie Pickler (American Idol contestant) and D.L. Hughley (comedian and tv star) strut their stuff.

This year’s full cast of stars seems a bit more exciting than the last couple of seasons.  It should make for better entertainment and a well-needed boost.  However, there are a few on the list whose names mean absolutely nothing to me, so the strong star power is dying down a bit.  Not surprising with that UGLY mirror ball trophy as the prize…they may want to consider a LARGE cash prize to get the ratings up and top celebs.

(VIDEO) 2011: DANCING WITH THE STARS PREMIERE, WHO WILL WIN?

The new season of DANCING WITH THE STARS has begun.  It is filled with a variety of stars and relatively unknowns this year.  It will be interesting to see if the ratings stay in tact with all the controversy about the new cast.  The premiere is typically well-received but let’s see if they will hang on and stay on top.

Who will win?  Well, it’s anyone’s guess.  Who is your favorite contestant?

 

CHAZ BONO JOINS CAST OF DANCING WITH THE STARS; ANGRY VIEWERS PROTEST

CHER was certainly shocked to hear the little girl she gave birth to so many years ago, was converting to a son.  But fans of popular TV show “Dancing With The Stars” were extremely stunned when the new line-up was revealed.  Chaz Bono, once known as Chastity Bono was presented as a competitor dancing with a woman (Lacey Schwimmer), causing angry viewers to complain to the network.  It also stirred up controversy on all circuits, including Twitter and Facebook.

The cast is an important part of the success of Dancing With The Stars, so they certainly added this twist in hopes of receiving higher ratings.  But it is not clear if they expected so much negative press about their choice and it is still to be seen if this decision will backfire. 

While same-sex marriages have become popular and legal in some states, many conservatives prefer to keep people’s sexuality hidden behind closed doors. It’s a sensitive topic, but many groups have no problem voicing their opinions.  Angry debates have hit the airwaves and social networking sites which may be exactly what the producers wanted.   

Although Chaz has received a lot of support, the hatred and negativity may be more than he anticipated.  It may be a good stunt for publicity and ratings, but are people really ready for this on a dance show?  Well, you would believe so when watching many of the popular shows. Brothers & Sisters, Greys Anatomy, Single Ladies, Six Feet Under, and many others featured at least one homosexual couple.  However, for some reason this seems to cause much more anger than other shows.  Is it because this is a transgender situation?  Is it due to the high number of viewers? Or does the name Bono change their opinions?

Sonny Bono (R.I.P.), father of Chaz probably would also be amazed to hear that his darling little girl is now competing alongside a woman.  Cher tweeted her support for Chaz, but early on it was reported that she was even hesitant to accept the change.

What do you think?  Is this too soon for the public to accept?  Does this harm the youths perception of relationships between a man and woman?  Was this just a bad idea?  Or do you say “go for it!”

2011 DANCING WITH THE STARS NEW LINE-UP; SNOOKI, QUEEN LATIFAH & MORE!

The popular t.v. series “Dancing With The Stars” announced a partial list of new contestants for their upcoming season.  Joining the cast is Queen Latifah, Nicole Pouzzi (Snooki), Rob Kardashian, Tiffany Thiessen, and Kristin Cavallari. 

It is an interesting variety of stars and will be pure entertainment to see Snooki, from the Jersey Shore, get her grove on without dance music. Let’s hope she lays off the booze long enough to learn the routine and complete her performance.  The other draw will be Queen Latifah, showing her more “feminine side” in graceful flowing gowns, and Rob Kardashian finally getting his time in the spotlight without is extremely famous sisters.  Let’s hope he can dance better than “other” family members, not that they are not loved.

The remaining members of the cast will be announced on August 29th.
