Police in Fullerton, California were caught on tape beating a harmless homeless man to death last month. Witness reports along with video footage seem to confirm, at least five police officers brutally beat 38-year-old Kelly Thomas until he was unable to move. Thomas slipped into a coma and later died at the hospital.
The officers were investigating a report of car break-in’s on July 5th, when they spotted the schizophrenic homeless man. Video footage captured by a by-stander, shows police beating him beyond recognition. It is still unknown why they used such force, especially for a minor offense. The man was the son of a retired Deputy Sheriff, Ron Thomas, who is outraged by the brutality.
It is currently being investigated and over two dozen officers have been assigned to the case. This does not bode well for the police departments credibility, but it’s good it was caught on tape. The beating was so violent and the outcome of the attack is alarming, it would have never been believed otherwise. Police involved have been placed on leave during the investigation, but why isn’t the video footage enough for an arrest?
In recent months unbelievably brutal behavior has happened across the country. Is there a connection as to what is causing so many to become so barbaric? Florida mom shoots her teenage kids for being mouthy, a father kills his infants and sends a text, a mother drives her car into a Hudson killing her children, dad shoots his family at a skating rink, and 8-year-old boy killed in Brooklyn, just to name a few. Why have so many people completely lost their minds?
Is this a sign that 2012 will actually cause a negative change in the universe? Let’s hope it will not take us into the direction of becoming cavemen again. This is a sad world we live in…it is unfortunate this tragic death was at the hands of our protectors.
