2013: CATHERINE ZETA-JONES ENTERS TREATMENT CENTER FOR BIPOLAR DISORDER

zetaCatherine Zeta-Jones is an Academy Award winning actress.  She is married to actor Michael Douglas.  She has starred in dozens of hit movies. She is stunningly beautiful and a mother of two.  She is wealthy and successful.

It would seem that she has it all and should be the happiest woman in the world.  However, she admits to having Bipolar disorder and recently announced, she is seeking treatment by checking herself into a mental health facility for the illness.  Over 6 million Americans suffer from this debilitating disease and seek help, so she is not alone.

This goes to show that we sometimes view celebrities as perfect and happy; which is not always the case.  They are human and have the same issues as anyone else. The only difference is that they are in the limelight and have found fame and fortune.

She is an incredible actress and fans are sending her much love and support.  Let’s hope she finds success in treatment so she can live a fulfilling life.  We are rooting for her!

4/28/13: BOSTON MARATHON BOMBER’S DAD NOT COMING TO AMERICA…GOOD!

The Boston Marathon bombing suspects dad just reported to the Russian press that he is not coming to America.  In a newly posted Chicago Tribune article, Anzor Tsarnaev, told reporter’s instead of traveling, he will make arrangements to bury his son and secure support to defend the other one.  Good luck with that…

This is probably a good idea, seeing that many enraged by this senseless act would not welcome him with open arms.   He originally had plans to travel to the United States to see his hospitalized son Dzkhokhar and bury his elder son, Tamerlan, who was shot dead by police in a shootout.

It was a sad day…and many innocent victims lost their lives or limbs for this nonsense.  What makes people so ruthless and evil?  Not sure, but even if the remaining son gets the death penalty it will not be punishment enough.

[VIDEO] 4/25/13: AMERICAN IDOL RECAP; WHO WENT HOME TONIGHT? CANDICE, ANGIE, KREE OR AMBER?

American Idol final four ladies rocked it last night.  This left viewers with the tough decision of who will head home and miss out on a chance to win it all.  It came down to Amber Holcomb, Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, and Angie Miller.

Well, let’s cut to the chase…they are all brilliant singers but one had to go.  It came down to the best singers in the entire competition, Candice and Amber being in the bottom two.  Say what!  America did get it wrong.

But to everyone’s surprise they finally had to use the SAVE!  Since the judges waited so long to use it, they automatically pulled it out tonight and no one went home.  This seems like a great time, but it still seemed more appropriate early on when Curtis Finch, Jr was sent packing.  We all know one will leave the competition next week anyway.

This now gives them all a final shot to step it up.  The singer who gives a break-out performance will be guaranteed a spot in the finale.  Next week will come down to song choice and determination.

Who will win AI this year?  Take the poll below and chime in.  I am loving the girl power this year…but would be shocked if Candice and Angie were not in the final showdown.

[VIDEO] 4/24/13: AMERICAN IDOL RECAP & REVIEW; MOST IMPROVED AMBER HOLCOLB; TOP 4 GIRLS WHO WILL WIN?

American Idol is down to the top 4 girls and this is probably the best remaining contestants in the history of the show.  It will be a tough call on who goes home tonight, but it is certain that the judges will use their tightly held “save”.

The fab four include; Amber Holcomb, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller.  They all performed well during the all important road to the finals, but if I were to call it Kree may be on the bubble to go home.  She was originally my pick to possibly go all the way and I truly never thought those words would leave my mouth. However, with Amber unleashing her full potential when it counts, there is some stiff competition.

It is probably the most profound thing Randy Jackson has ever said during his stint as a judge, but he was actually right.  Amber is no doubt the most improved of all contestants this year and she now looks like a star.  While the viewers did not seem to “get her’ along the way, I always knew she was an incredible singer.

Although it is finally the year of the ladies and a female is guaranteed to win after six years, this comes at the worst possible time.  Unfortunately, with the addition of the extremely annoying Nicki Minaj, the ratings have continued to slide and viewers are beginning to tune out.

There is also one other problem with the show this year, none of them seem to have the magic of other flamboyant contestants of the past.  I have waited for a Adam Lambert or Fantasia break-out moment and it just has not happened.  The closest it got was the stellar piano performances given by Angie Miller and heartfelt belting of Candice Glover, but it just was not the same.

So who will end up in the finals head-to-head?  This is a hard call, but it just may be an unexpected battle between Angie and Candice.  Although it would not shock me if underdog Amber Holcomb, steps it up and blows Candice out.

Who do you think will win it all?  Vote below and chime it.  Based on recent performances, my prediction is that Angie just may run away with the prize. She is the only true artist this year, and writing her own music helps.

[VIDEO] 4/15/13: THE VOICE RECAP & REVIEW; BATTLE ROUND BEGINS; JUDITH HILL & KARINA INGLESIAS BEST OF THE NIGHT

Today may be the dreaded income tax deadline…basically time to pay Uncle Sam.  But at least we had something to look forward to…the battle rounds on The Voice.  It is a simple recap and review, basically the show did not begin until 1 hour and 51 minutes into it.

The best battle was by far the last one; between rocker music teacher Karina Inglesias and Michael Jackson protégé, Judith Hill.  Singing the James Brown classic “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” they blew away the competition and showed it is definitely nothing without a woman. Although Adam Levine selected Judith, it was no surprise that Shakira used the steal to snatch up Karina.  If you missed it…better check it out on Youtube when they post it.

While the battle rounds is not my favorite part of the show, they made it worth watching.  They showcased them  last, because they were clearly the best.  No other battle came close and most other contestants were lackluster for the most part.

One of these extremely talented singers should find themselves in the finals, or even the winner of The Voice.  If Judith Hill is not in the finals I will definitely eat my socks and my shoes.

[GRAPHIC VIDEO] 4/15/13: BOSTON MARATHON BOMBING MAKES NO SENSE…3 DEAD & DOZENS INJURED

WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO

The shocking headlines today, brings new meaning to the saying “What is wrong with people?”  The deadly bombing at The Boston Marathon makes absolutely no sense.  The explosion happened near the finish line where thousands were running and watching.  There are reports of three dead, one being an 8-year-old boy,   over 130 people injured, and 17 in critical condition.

It is being called a terrorist attack and two other bombs were found in the surrounding area. It literally makes me sick to my stomach that someone can cause this much destruction and harm innocent victims.  Raw video footage was released and shows the complete terror and chaos.

Over 17,000 participated in the marathon, which was cut short due to this senseless bombing.  Supporter’s lined the street, including children, to cheer them on and many now have found themselves critically injured.  Networks have reported that some even lost limbs, which is a complete tragedy.

It is sad to think there is such anger in the world over complete nonsense.  President Obama announced there are no suspects at this time and it is unknown if it is international or domestic terrorism. Nevertheless, anyone with such hate is sick and should be severely punished.  The violence needs to end and there is nothing worth fighting for with such hatred.

The world is watching and sending condolences to the victims of this deadly crime.  R.I.P. to the fallen, their families and the many who have suffered.

It really makes me wonder if people have truly lost their minds. Tragic.  Let’s hope someone comes forward with information about these killers…and may they end up at the BOTTOM of HELL.

2013: THE VOICE CRUSHES AMERICAN IDOL; IS NICKI MINAJ THE DOWNFALL?

shakira

The addition of Shakira and Usher on the new season of The Voice is more than refreshing.  It also seems to have pushed their ratings through the roof.  Is it just me or did Christina Aguilera leaving revive the show?  Not sure, but I am certainly enjoying it 100% more this year and think it was the best move of any singing competition show.

It appears that a replacement may be something for American Idol to consider.  In my opinion, it would probably help with their faltering ratings if they canned Nicki MinajAccording to some reports, they are down 10 million viewers since 2011.  Some may argue that they now have more competition and have been on the air for over a decade, but I believe Nicki and Mariah were bad choices.

While Nicki does at least provide more constructive feedback than the other judges, her nasal voice and attitude unnerves me.  If the show finds itself on the canceled list, surely she will have something to do with it.  How I miss Jennifer Lopez!

The Voice not only crushes American Idol when it comes to their judging panel, this season the talent is undeniably better.  It is still early, but the singers have already blown me away. To break it down….The Voice has better judges….check.  The Voice has better singers…check.  The Voice has a better concept…check.

I must admit The Voice originally was not my favorite singing competition, but I absolutely love the new judges! Shakira is supportive and offers Latino’s a great opportunity and Usher is just well….sexy.

It’s pretty bad when you fast forward through most singers, like I do when watching American Idol now.  Let’s face it they increased the votes to 50 per person to make it seem like millions more are voting.  Do they think the viewers are stupid?

What do you think?  Which is the better show?  Should Nicki go? Don’t forget to vote and check out the ratings listed below.

(VIDEO) 2013: CHICAGO LEGENDARY FILM CRITIC ROGER EBERT DIES AT 70; LEGACY LIVES ON WITH TWO THUMBS UP

It has been while since I have had time to blog, probably due to the Super Computer Virus.  But the loss of legendary Chicago film critic, Roger Ebert, on April 4, 2013 inspired me to take time out for a mention.

This week Ebert lost his long battle with thyroid cancer, but his long legacy of honest film reviews will live on.  I remember a time when the only movies on my viewing list, were those that received his memorable “thumbs up” nod.  If the movie got the thumbs down, it was immediately taken off my list.  Now that is powerful to think about and just how trustworthy he was as a critic.

Although he struggled with his speech and writing during his last several years on earth, his passion for writing was untouched.  He fought through it and continued to wow his fans, which is a true testament of his character.

This was sad to hear, but hopefully he is in a better place.  R.I.P. Mr. Ebert…may you find yourself in a place that you can give two “thumbs up”.  And maybe you will reunite with your ex-partner in crime Gene Siskel and duke it out once again.

He died at 70-years-old, but not before winning a Pulitzer Prize. Check out below video to see what inspired the phrase “thumbs up & thumbs down“…interesting.
