(VIDEO) 9/17/11 BOXING: FLOYD MAYWEATHER OUTBURST ON COMMENTATOR LARRY MERCHANT; ORTIZ LOSES

SORRY FOR THOSE WHO MISSED VIDEO-IT HAS BEEN REMOVED ON YOUTUBE DUE TO COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS.  NEW VIDEO MAY BE RE-POSTED BY THEM AT A LATER DATE.  PLEASE CHECK BACK.

The much-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz took place in Las Vegas tonight.  While it was exciting and full of momentum it was the end that had the crowd on their feet.

During early rounds the match appeared fairly equal.  But Ortiz had a burst of momentum and apparently headbutt Mayweather.  As they went to make amends and hug Ortiz relaxed his hands and was sucker-punched to the floor.  The audience showed their disdain and yelled in disgust.  It was eventually called a Mayweather win by knockout but that was not the end of the fight.

As the popular and well-respected commentator, Larry Merchant, interviewed Maywearther, he was verbally attacked. Mayweather began a loud assault of words yelling obscenities at Merchant.  He was angry and felt the commentator was “not on his side”, so he screamed “you never give me a fair shake!”  The good news is that Merchant held his ground and yelled back “If I were 50 years younger I’d beat your @#&!”  It was pretty funny to watch an older man standing up to someone clearly in better shape and much younger, but disgusting to see him be disrespected in such poor taste.  Mayweather even went as far to say “HBO should fire you!”

It really was unnecessary and did not show good sportsmanship by our new World Champion of boxing.  What a disappointment.  This is not the behavior we want our youth to follow.  Let’s hope he apologizes.

What a sad day for the sport of boxing…this will go down as one of the most embarrassing moments in sports history.  What do you think?  Should Mayweather apologize?

7/25/11 VIDEO: NFL LOCKOUT OVER; CHICAGO BEARS FANS CELEBRATE

The NFL announced the lockout is over.  Bears fans lit up Twitter and Facebook in celebration of their upcoming football season being back in session.  Now that the games are back on, most are thrilled but a few “anti-sports” fans are not too happy about the news.  Some were hoping to use their plasma t.v. to watch other shows for once, but seems like their plans will be put on hold!

It looks like this will not be a long depressing winter after all, in Chicago. GO BEARS!

P.s. If you blink you may miss the story in above clip.

(7/17/11 VIDEO) WOMEN’S WORLD CUP FINALS; JAPAN BEATS U.S.

The U.S. women’s soccer team has come a long way, making the World Cup finals for the first time since 1999.  Today they put their best foot forward (literally), trying to beat Japan.  It was a historic moment for Americans who were cheering them on all the way.

During the early rounds the U.S. scored as many cheered, but then Japan tied the game, sending them into overtime.  Japan went on to win, but the U.S. women can hold their heads high.  They played hard and went further than they have in quite some time.

Big shout out to the U.S. women, great job!

(7/8/11 VIDEO) FAN PLUMMETS TO HIS DEATH AT RANGERS BASEBALL GAME

Last night a man plummeted to his death at a Texas Rangers baseball game in a tragic freak accident.  The young father caught a home run ball by reaching over the railing, but lost control falling over 20-feet.  Unfortunately, his young son watched as the man hit the concrete head first.  His friend tried unsuccessfully to save him, but it happened too quickly.

I must warn you the above video is tough to watch, especially knowing that he did not survive the fall.  It brings to light safety issues at baseball games, since this is the second time this year a fan has died trying to catch a baseball.  This is certain to cause teams around the country to revisit safety, and possibly come up with new measures to prevent this from happening again in the future.

The video circulated around networks throughout the world.  While it may seem inappropriate to show, many hope it will help others understand the danger involved in trying to catch a ball.  It just isn’t worth your life.

My heart goes out to the family and the small boy who had to witness his father’s death.  Such a sad thing to watch.

UPDATE 7/8/11-FAN IDENTIFIED

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim of this tragic death, as 39-year-old Shannon Stone of Brownwood.  Stone had been a firefighter for nearly 18 years in Brownwood.

2011 NFL & NBA SHUTDOWN MAY CAUSE WITHDRAWAL SYNDROME

The National Football League club owners and players still have not come to terms on their differences.  They just can’t seem to figure out how best to divide the $9.3 billion in annual revenue. Talks have resumed and they are back to negotiating a new collective bargaining deal, but they better figure something out quickly, because the lockout threatens the start of training camps.

If football season does not happen this year, it is sure to cause “withdrawal syndrome” for many sports fans.  Depression medication sales will likely climb, and football junkies will have to find another sport to watch.  But wait, there may be an issue with basketball season as well.  NBA commissioner David Stern reported owners have now locked out NBA players.  No football or basketball?  What will they watch…Ice skating?

While I could care less about sports, I do understand the importance of what it brings to the economy.  Not only are restaurants, bars, and advertising revenue impacted, sports fans mental health is also affected.  Do you realize how sad millions of men and sports enthusiast would be without a season of Football or Basketball?

On the other hand, how many women would be able to reclaim their TV and lives back for a season?  They probably could then get off their meds.

CHICAGO CUBS OFFER CHEAP BEER TO FANS; ATTENDANCE DOWN 16%

CHICAGO Cubs baseball fans apparently are not attending games as much this year.  Not sure if it is the economy, the stiff price of tickets, or the loss of interest.  But news reports suggest ticket sales to Cubs games are down 16% this year.

Cubs management is fighting to get fans back by offering incentives on beer.  The typical price of beer at a game sells for $8 a glass, but in an effort increase attendance, reports suggest it will soon sell for only $3 a glass. The special will only be offered on select days, to fans with bleacher seating.  And in May they are sweetening the deal for bleacher seat guests, by selling them hotdogs for $1 and offering a free T-shirt.   Well, I’m not sure if this is enough to attract fans back to Wrigley Field, but it may be a good start.

Although I am not a baseball fan and the cheaper beer would not entice me to attend, it may attract the true fans.  Maybe there are some who love the team, but just cannot afford the luxury of a live game in this economy.

What do you think?  Would you go to a Cubs game if you could save on the beer and hotdogs?

Video: LABRON JAMES MOM ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AND INTOXICATION

LABRON JAMES is famous in the world of sports, but who knew his mom would also find fame.  Well, it may not be the spotlight she was looking for, being arrested is probably not what she had in mind.  Gloria James was allegedly intoxicated when she struck an employee at a hotel after a fight over keys with the valet.

Although she was arrested for assault and intoxication, she was not jailed. But she allegedly had other troubles a couple of years back, when she was arrested for drunken intoxication.

It’s bad enough sports players have many issues with the law, but now their mom’s are also setting a bad example.  This is not headed in the right direction!  Family members are supposed to be the support which keeps the athletes grounded right?  Come on mom, get it together…your son needs you to keep it straight!
