[VIDEO] 3/21/21: AMERICAN IDOL RECAP & REVIEW; WHO WENT HOME? PAUL JOLLEY OR DEVIN VELEZ?

AMERICAN IDOL recap 3/21/13…so who went home?  Well, let’s start with the HUGE surprise.  The bottom three was Amber Holcomb, Paul Jolley, and Devin Velez.  One out of three means America got it wrong…and seriously AMBER!

What was American thinking?  She is one of the best singers in the competition.  Jimmy Iovine was the only one who got it right.  His summary way pretty spot on.  It was clear the only other singer who potentially would have been on the bubble is Janelle, but the country fans would never let that happen.

Not much more to say…but it was no shock that Paul Jolley found himself on the hot seat.  And we know if the judges would not use the save for Curtis Finch Jr, they certainly would not for Paul.  See ya later dude.  We will likely see him on Glee sometime soon…he is perfect for that show.

Check out how it all unfolded here.

[VIDEO] 3/14/13: AMERICAN IDOL RECAP; TOP 3 REVEALED….WHO GOT VOTED OFF? CURTIS FINCH JR?

American Idol changed it up a bit tonight.  Not only did they give stats on the contestants, the top 3 singers were also revealed for the first time.  So who made the cut?  Well, it may not be a surprise that the ladies topped the leader board, since they slayed the guys last night.

Let’s start with Devin Valez, he sealed 25% of the votes in Puerto Rico; making him number one there.  Janelle Arthur earned the majority of the votes in Tennessee, with a whopping 30% of the votes.

Candace Glover not only won the state of South Carolina with a staggering 42% of the votes, she also made the top 3.  This was obvious based on her performance last night and if you recall I said she was the best of the night.

Fan favorite Kree Harrison, got a surprise visit from the Mayor (Ben Bythewood) of Woodville Texas, who gave her a key to the city.  It is her hometown which made it extra special. But to top the icing on the cake, she also received news she too was in the top three.

Lazaro Arbos and Angie Miller went head to head and he beat her in the state of Florida with votes.  However, Angie joined the ladies in the top three.

Breaking down the remaining singers; #4 Lazaro Arbos, #5 Amber Holcomb, #6 Janelle Arthur, #7 Burnell Taylor, and #8 Paul Jolley.  Shockingly enough, Curtis Finch Jr and Devin Valez were in the bottom two.  While they did not perform well last night, they have been top singers from day one. America definitely got this wrong…my pick would have been for Paul to be in the bottom based on the overall season. This goes to show many viewers have just began tuning in.

The first selected to leave the show was Curtis Finch Jr.  It was insane to watch, seeing he was in my original top three to make it into the finals.  Good thing the judges had one save, BUT WAIT…they did not use it!  Who were they saving it for?  All I can say is WOW!  He deserves to be there and it was a crime to see him go home. Nicki Minaj was clearly upset about it and for the first time I was 100% with her.  Let’s just hope he turns into another Jennifer Hudson.

It was great to see all ladies in the top three, but also surprising since the guys seemed stronger early on.  This goes to show that Idol votes can change instantly based on song choice and performance.  Top three Candace, Angie and Kree have been my picks from the start so America got this right.

Bon Jovi and Phillip Phillips performed in between to break the ice.  They even let ex-contestant Charlie Askew sing his original song…it was good because many felt bad about how he left the show in an apparent meltdown.  There was also a another visit from Aubrey Cleland to sing a song. This was a first…it’s not even the finale?  But looks like the fans will vote for additional singers to go on tour so they performed for votes.

Tonight was a complete shock…this should make for an interesting season.  What do you think?

3/7/13: AMERICAN IDOL RECAP & REVIEW; TOP TEN REVEALED TONIGHT; WHO MADE THE CUT?

Tonight American Idol announced the top 10 contestants headed to the finals.  It seems that America got it right and I picked 4 out of 5 guys & girls which is not too shabby!

They switched it up a bit this season; telling the singers behind the scenes if they made the cut.  Ryan Seacrest then shared the good news with the audience and judges.  The contestant stepped around the corner to cheers and then gave a celebration performance.  It added to the excitement for audience members, but not sure if it mattered to TV viewers.

The first guy to move forward was Paul Jolley.  He was not really on my radar, but did perform well last night so it’s no huge surprise.  However, my vote was for Vincent Powell (too bad). The remaining guys were on my list to grab a spot and include; Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr, Devin Valez and Lazaro Arbos.  It was a bit disappointing to hear Lazaro tell the band members to have his back, because he did not learn the last words of his song.

Now on to the ladies, where I also only slightly off the mark (4 of 5 again…damn I’m good!).  The first to make it through was Janelle Arthur.  She was not on my list, but still deserved to make it.  I just found others to be slightly better, however, it was a toss-up.  The no brainer Candace Glover was the next to receive the good news.  I have had her pegged for the final from the start…so good for her!

It was great to see Angie Miller sail through.  She is a true artist and hopefully she will sing her instant hit once again down the road. One of my favorites Amber Holcomb also got a chair and rocked her celebration song!   Good to see that American nixed my theory that looks do matter.  The two attractive women did not get a free pass, and the final spot went to Kree Harrison.

Who do you think will win it all?  My vote for top spots at this point are;  Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr, Angie Taylor, Amber Holcomb, and Candace Glover.  But Devin Valez could be the dark horse this year.

[VIDEO] 3/6/13 AMERICAN IDOL RECAP & REVIEW; TOP 10 GUYS PERFORM; BEST PERFORMANCE GOES TO…BURNELL & CURTIS?

American Idol season 12 is heating up and fans will now have their chance to vote for the top ten.  Tonight it was the guys turn to show America their skills, but did they out-perform the ladies?  In my opinion, shockingly enough most did not.

The show started off flat and really did not come alive until Burnell Taylor hit the stage.  He may have lost 40 pounds, but his voice is clearly in tact. It was a great performance and one of the best of the night.  Keith Urban even gave him a standing ovation, and I’m surprised the other judges did not.  If he does not sail through, I will surely eat my shoes (with ketchup of course).

One of the early favorites found at Chicago auditions, Curtis Finch, Jr, also stepped up his game. All of the judges were on their feet after he slayed R. Kelly hit song, “I Believe I Can Fly”.  Another singer on my list of top performances of the night.  He blew it out the park.

Although Charlie Askew was left in tears after the judges comments, sadly enough, he was the worst of the night.  He definitely lost his charm and admitted to wanting to “let off some steam“.  I really like the kid, so it was sad to see him so emotionally broken.  But angry Charlie is just not cute.

Overall, most of the guys fell short of my expectations.  Early on it seemed clear they would absolutely have a shot at the title.  Now I’m not too sure…looks like the ladies may have a better chance this year than I thought.

The top 5 male singer’s should be a no brainer and my votes go to the best of tonight.  They include; Curtis Finch Jr, Burnell Taylor, Devin Velez, Vincent Powell, and Lazaro Arbos.  Still on the fence about Cortez Shaw and Nick Boddington…but they would be good replacements.  Not sure why the judges did not like Vincent, he sounded good on my end.

Looks like we will have to tune in tomorrow to see how voter’s ranked the contestants.  Now that you can cast 50 VOTES with their new App…they should see ONE BILLION votes!  LOL!

Who do you think will make top ten?

On another note, a special shout-out to R. Kelly who went to my high school….Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Whoot…Whoot!

2/28/13: AMERICAN IDOL TOP 20 REVEALED; SHOCKING RESULTS FOR SEASON 12 SUDDEN DEATH ROUNDS

American Idol revealed their top 20 list of semi-finalist for season 12 on Thursday.  Fans may be disappointed at some of the results and missing a few early favorites.  While the clear front-runners such as Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, and Curtis Finch Jr. sailed through, others weren’t so lucky.

Idol has a group of amazing talent this year, so I can see the dilemma faced by the judges.  I would not want to be in their shoes, especially not those of Nicki Minaj.  It was a close call for some contestants and many early round unknown’s stepped up their game.

Although the judges did not like Josh Holliday’s rendition of an original song, I totally disagree.  It sounded it great to me and I was surprised he did not make the list.  Nick Boddington was not on my radar, but I believe he rocked it, although the judges did not think so.  Vincent Powell was clearly one of the best guys to perform and he has a real chance of making top three.  His vocals actually surpassed one some of my favorites including; Curtis and Devin.  Nicki sang high praises for Burnell, and he was really good but not the best.   Cortez Shaw also really left his heart on the stage and was incredible!

In the end, while many great singer’s were cut, there is still a huge pool of talent.  The only ones in question are Zoanette (she is entertaining but vocals don’t compare to others) and Aubrey (extremely attractive but vocals are fairly weak compared to other contestants).

This should be an incredible season and if I were to guess there are several already primed for top spots.  They include; Candace, Kree, Nick, Curtis, Vincent, Cortez and Angie.

Who do you think will win Idol?  Post your comments and let’s see who is right!  Game on…

On another note; once again Nicki Minaj is really pissing off the fans. Did she really have to be so rude to several of the contestants?  Especially David and Bryant…OMG!  Her being “obsessed” and her British accent is also beginning to unnerve me.  This inspired me to write my blog AMERICA HATES NICKI ON IDOL!
